Job Title: Automotive Mechanic Job Description

This role focuses on performing efficient, accurate automotive repairs and maintenance in line with company standards while supporting the maintenance of incoming vehicles at a depot location. You will carry out repairs, conduct inspections, document all work performed, and collaborate closely with technicians, forepersons, and the parts department to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for operation.

• Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with company standards.
• Carry out minor repairs and parts replacements, ensuring proper installation and functionality.
• Operate a tire machine and wheel balancer to mount, dismount, and balance tires correctly.
• Follow instructions from lead technicians and shop forepersons to meet operational demands and performance goals.
• Communicate with the parts department to obtain required parts in a timely manner.
• Save and tag parts from repair jobs when required for warranty purposes or at the request of the technical team.
• Examine assigned vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is required or recommended.
• Notify the lead technician immediately if additional work is needed, if work listed on the repair order is not necessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time frame.
• Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order with clear and accurate notes.
• Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, including travel to Chandler, AZ, to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and grow with the company, adapting to new technologies and processes.
• Inspect and test drive newly delivered vehicles to identify obvious damage, missing major components, and drivability issues.
• Follow established Pre-Delivery processes to ensure vehicles meet quality and safety standards before release.
• Report machinery defects or malfunctions promptly to the lead technician to prevent downtime and ensure safe operations.
• Ensure customers vehicles remain clean and presentable, and immediately report any changes in appearance or condition to the lead technician.
• Maintain a neat, organized, and clean shop area to support a safe and efficient work environment.
• Maintain accountability for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to their proper locations and ensuring they remain in good condition.
• Stay informed about and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements.
• Operate all tools and equipment safely and in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines.
• Report any safety issues or concerns to management immediately to support a safe workplace.
• Meet productivity, efficiency goals, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) as set by leadership.
• Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned by leadership to support overall shop operations.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working in an automotive repair shop.
• Ability to perform minor automotive repairs and parts replacements accurately and efficiently.
• Proficiency in using a tire machine and wheel balancer.
• Experience with automotive troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair.
• Ability to perform diagnostic testing and interpret results to identify issues.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with automotive preventive maintenance.
• Ability to follow directions from lead technicians and shop forepersons.
• Capability to meet productivity, efficiency goals, and other KPIs established by leadership.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with the parts department and technical team.
• Ability to document work clearly and accurately on repair orders.
• Commitment to safe operation of tools and equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
• Understanding of and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.

• Experience as a maintenance technician or auto maintenance and repair specialist.
• Familiarity with Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) processes for newly delivered vehicles.
• Ability to identify drivability concerns during inspections and test drives.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting vehicles for damage or missing components.
• Willingness to participate in manufacturer-sponsored training, including travel for multi-week programs.
• Demonstrated desire to learn, grow, and adapt within a dynamic automotive environment.
• Ability to maintain organization and accountability for shared tools and technical manuals.
• Comfort working within a KPI-driven environment and adjusting work habits to meet performance metrics.

This position is based at a depot facility in San Francisco, supporting the maintenance of incoming autonomous vehicle fleets. You will work primarily on-site in a hands-on shop environment that includes the use of tire machines, wheel balancers, diagnostic equipment, and standard automotive tools. The role follows a Shift C schedule, working Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The shop environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety standards, including proper handling of hazardous materials and compliance with OSHA requirements. You will participate in a structured training process that includes travel to Arizona for approximately two weeks to attend formal classes led by a certified technical trainer, typically in small cohorts of about 6 to 9 participants. Dress and attire will align with a professional automotive shop setting, focusing on safety and practicality appropriate for working with tools, equipment, and vehicles.

This is a Contract position based out of San Francisco, CA.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
