Foreperson, Electrical General Description: The Electrician performs skilled electrical work, including installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical controls, wiring, and lighting systems, and inspecting transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Physical Demands: Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects and materials. Work requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching in various positions to access electrical systems and equipment. The employee frequently uses their hands to handle, grasp, and manipulate tools, wiring, and materials; engages in repetitive motion and fine dexterity when assembling, connecting, or testing electrical components. Visual acuity is required to inspect wiring, read blueprints, and perform precise installations or repairs. Hearing and speaking abilities are essential for communicating with coworkers, supervisors, and contractors in environments where machinery and equipment are in operation. The work may involve working in elevated areas, confined spaces, or awkward positions for extended periods. Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in and around school buildings, mechanical rooms, and outdoor campus areas. The position involves regular exposure to electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, confined spaces, high places, and varying weather conditions. Employees may encounter dust, noise, vibrations, and occasional exposure to fumes or chemicals associated with electrical or maintenance work. Tasks may require the use of ladders, lifts, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety standards. The work is often performed independently or as part of a maintenance team and may require adjusting hours or responding to emergencies outside of normal work schedules. This position may also require participation in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours, weekend, or emergency maintenance needs to ensure the safety and operational continuity of school facilities. Foreperson, Electrical General Description: The Electrician performs skilled electrical work, including installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical controls, wiring, and lighting systems, and inspecting transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems and equipment, including wiring, panel boards, switchgear, breakers, lighting systems (fluorescent and general), motors, generators, VFDs, receptacles, and control devices.
- Troubleshoots electrical issues involving lighting, controls, ventilation hoods, parking lot systems, and related components.
- Installs, wires, repairs, tests, and calibrates commercial and residential kitchen equipment, as well as hot water heaters and electric boilers.
- Performs wiring installations including conduit, piping, switches, receptacles, and fixtures; connects power equipment; and installs control and distribution apparatus such as relays and circuit breaker panels.
- Tests electrical circuits and systems using appropriate instruments and replaces components such as ballasts as needed.
- Assists other trades in diagnosing and repairing HVAC systems, chillers, water heaters, drinking fountains, fire alarms, and fire pumps.
- Uses hand and power tools to measure, cut, bend, thread, install, and assemble electrical components and conduit.
- Maintains required records and files; prepares and works from blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
- Follows all required safety precautions in the performance of electrical work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) years at journeyman status as an electrician preferred.
- Requires a current electrician's (Journeyman) license and a valid Virginia driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Preferred knowledge in using computer or tablet-type equipment.
- Excellent knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in the trade is required.
- Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices of electrical work, electrical codes, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and required safety precautions.
- Skilled in the use of tools, equipment, and machinery required in electrical work sites.
- Ability to interpret and work from instructions, guidelines, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and school/department administration and staff.
- Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs. frequently and 50-100 lbs. occasionally for short distances or with the aid of load-bearing equipment.
