Major Responsibilities Participate, observe, and/or act as a resource to staff for patient‑related clinical problems. Participate, observe, and/or act as a resource in clinical situations such as medical alerts (arrest, rapid response, admissions, transfers) and monitor unstable patients. Participate, observe, and/or act as a resource to staff for patient‑related service problems. Collaborate with providers to ensure optimal patient care and effective utilization of resources; support staff to problem‑solve patient service and unit issues. Act as a patient advocate by responding to and intervening in patient and visitor concerns, performing service recovery when needed. Initiate investigations of patient safety events and medication errors; ensure proper documentation and a corrective‑action plan is in place. Participate, observe, and act as a resource for staff regarding patient‑related systems problems. Act as liaison for staff to ensure processes are in place for patients to receive optimal care. Collaborate with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff, and hospital administration to facilitate provision of quality care. Identify trends in system problems and notify unit and/or department manager. Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge to facilitate timely process throughout the system. Provide direction, in collaboration with the patient command center, on patient transfers and reassign staff when needed. Complete appropriate database documentation. Respond to internal and external public‑relations issues, maintaining rapport with staff, public, and media; alert public‑relations and site administrators of potential patient/hospital situations; direct media appropriately and field outside inquiries, complaints, or problems with proper referral. Ensure compliance with standards and requirements of regulatory agencies; act as incident commander in absence of the AOC or administrative leader. Serve as an individual to intervene during absence of the safety or patient safety officer when conditions threaten life, health, or damage to equipment or buildings. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of served patients. Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess patient data and interpret information needed to identify each patient’s age‑specific needs and provide required care per department policies and procedures. Apply age‑specific information further developed in departmental job standards. Collaborate with management and human resources to address disciplinary matters. Qualifications Registered Nurse license (RN) issued by the state in which the member practices. Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Typically requires 3 years of clinical nursing experience. Excellent problem‑solving, decision‑making, and listening skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate and build relationships with others. Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during a work shift. Must have functional sight and hearing. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head. Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force. Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Must be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines. Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
