Special Education Teacher-Elementary

Job Description White Hall School District is seeking an Elementary Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal and the Director of Special Services, the teacher will maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living by implementing district‑approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress; addressing students’ specific needs; and providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Essential Functions Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and assist in developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students. Assist students and teaching staff in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans. Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and state/federal authorities as needed. Coordinate with administrators and other staff to ascertain individual student abilities and needs and to share information regarding social work services. Serve as a resource for students and parents, providing counseling that promotes personal growth and behavioral management; act as liaison between home and school. Pursue professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, research, and networking with higher‑education institutions and the community. Organize and maintain accurate record‑keeping systems and provide student information to prospective colleges and employers as required. Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents. Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in‑service training in guidance. Additional Duties Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Equipment Use standard office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and telephone. Travel Requirements Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, and methods. Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles. Knowledge of data information systems and data analysis to formulate action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments. Qualifications Profile Arkansas Certification/License: 230,258,184 – State certification as a Special Education Teacher. Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching; Master’s Degree in Special Education (preferred). Experience: Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred. Applicants must pass an Arkansas State Police background check, an FBI background check, and a DHS background check.
