Lead Backend Engineer - Java and AI

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with 5+ years of applied experience.
• We seek hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• We need advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Java.
• We require experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting secure, scalable, and resilient software solutions using Java, Spring Boot, AWS cloud technologies, and Kafka.
• We value demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set expectations for validating AI outputs for accuracy, performance, and security.
• We expect a strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security standards; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption is important.
• We require proficiency across all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• We need advanced understanding of agile practices such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
• Preferred: in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
• Preferred: practical cloud-native experience.

• We execute creative software solutions, including design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using approaches that go beyond routine problem-solving.
• We develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others.
• We drive adoption of enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while maintaining consistent validation standards and promoting reusable patterns.
• We apply knowledge of tools in the software development life cycle toolchain, including approved AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value delivered through automation.
• We identify opportunities to remove or automate remediation for recurring issues to strengthen the operational stability of software applications and systems.
• We lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and fit within existing systems and information architecture.
