Medical Assistant

LivWell Community Health Services is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive health and support services, education, and advocacy, as related to HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, and viral hepatitis. Quality health care is provided to persons living with HIV/AIDS or sexually transmitted diseases, support services are provided to HIV clients and their families, and prevention education and testing are provided to all clients, their families, and the community at large. Within the community, we strive to prevent new infections of HIV and STI's and reduce the stigma associated with these various diseases by promoting awareness, acceptance, and equality.

Job Responsibilities:

• Schedules and enters patient labs, as ordered by providers
• Educates and links patients to internal and external resources, including Part B services and housing
• Coordinates and attends satellite clinics
• Ensures medication renewal requests are sent to providers and followed up on with provider's reply which includes e-prescribing approved medication
• Completes prior authorizations for medications as needed
• Triages patient calls as needed
• Initiates process for patient referrals and orders including scheduling, obtaining pre-certification, and other details needed to complete
• Assists in chart reviews and completes post-review "To Do" list
• Completes chart information as needed, i.e. To Dos, phone calls, etc.
• Completes follow-up calls to patients, including adherence calls, etc.
• Assists in rooming patients, taking vital signs, and recording medical history
• Assists the Clinic Support Coordinator as needed
• Attends all assigned meetings including daily medical huddle, weekly interdisciplinary meetings, department meetings, monthly staff meetings, etc.
• Collaborates with Support Services staff on patient needs
• Administers injections and vaccines as ordered by provider
• Transmits information for vaccines given in office to the state immunization registry
• Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as assigned
• Completes all annual training as assigned
• Any other duties that may evolve within this position

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of medical office, specifically direct patient care experience
• Valid driver's license in your state of residence and insurable to drive LivWell CHS' company vehicles
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, EHR functionality, and general office software
• Willingness to obtain phlebotomy certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years demonstrated experience in a medical assistant role in a medical office environment
• Certified Medical Assistant and/or Associate's Degree
• Phlebotomy certification
• Knowledge of HIV disease
• Knowledge of generic and brand name medications and their uses
