Project Engineering Manager, Food Manufacturing

A food processing facility is hiring a Project Engineering Manager to lead capital and automation projects from concept through completion. This role partners closely with plant personnel, vendors, and contractors to design, plan, and execute engineering projects, with regular travel to other facility locations.

Schedule: Full-time. Approximately 50% travel to other locations required.

Compensation: $115,000 to $145,000 base salary, plus annual bonus, commensurate with experience.

What You'll Do: This role develops preliminary designs and specifications for engineering and materials projects, prepares cost estimates, and conducts research and feasibility studies to confirm designs are viable and cost-effective. The Project Engineering Manager determines design criteria based on applicable codes and standards, validates field work, and produces as-built drawings once projects are complete.

Day to day, this position reviews engineering projects for accuracy, manages project execution by directing vendors and contractors, and coordinates schedules across plant personnel, vendors, and engineering teams to keep implementation on track. This includes directing equipment vendors on layout planning, utility requirements, and installation timelines, as well as reviewing consultant work products and recommending adjustments. The role maintains documentation including equipment manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, parts lists, and vendor contact information.

This position also leads pre-project planning and feasibility reviews, defines project scope, prepares and evaluates requests for proposals, and manages contract administration and bid package compliance. The Project Engineering Manager prepares budget analyses, justifications, and schedules, submits regular progress reports to management, and monitors installations to confirm specifications and budgets are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or a related field, and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2+ years of experience in a leadership role, including team development and management
• Strong project management, contract administration, and national codes and standards interpretation skills
• Proficiency in engineering economics
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office products
• Experience managing multi-million dollar projects with large scopes
• Ability to travel to other locations approximately 50% of the time
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational planning, analytical reasoning, and adaptability

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry
• Experience with installation and construction project scheduling
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment
