What You Will Be Doing:

The Section of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CDPHP) is seeking a collaborative and self-directed Public Health Data Analyst to support statewide public health initiatives through data analysis, evaluation, and reporting.

Using your knowledge of epidemiology, statistical methodologies, and data science, you will support public health efforts by collaborating with diverse staff, partners, and contractors to manage and analyze surveillance data, interpret analytic findings, develop research and evaluation questions, and help communicate public health data through visualizations, scientific reports, and presentations.

You will also serve in an advisory role within the Division of Public Health as a member of various workgroups, providing guidance and training to staff and the public on statistical concepts and the interpretation of public health data. In this advisory role, you will also lead data modernization efforts through collaboration with staff and Information Technology (IT) teams and help respond to the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in public health.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

The position is located in our Anchorage or Juneau office.

In Anchorage, the office is located on the 7th floor of the Frontier Building in Anchorage. The office is situated with stunning views of the Chugach Range and Cook Inlet. There is covered parking, high-level building security, and access to vending machines for drinks and snacks. It is within walking distance or a short drive to several lunch options.

Who We Are Looking For:

• Mathematical Reasoning : Solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical and statistical techniques.
• Data Management : Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and tools of data management, such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data archiving, data disposal, and data standardization processes.
• Public Health : Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including, promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and/or injury prevention, and/or detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
• Research : Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
• Oral and Written Communication : Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
