Bilingual Clinician

A Greater Hope

Under general supervision, the Bilingual Clinician provides trauma-informed mental health services to unaccompanied children (UC) in care under a federal/agency program. This position is responsible for conducting clinical assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, providing individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and ongoing support to promote the emotional well-being and adjustment of youth. Bilingual Spanish is required.

The Clinician ensures that all therapeutic services meet agency, federal, and state licensing standards and are consistent with professional ethical and clinical best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed individual, group, and family therapy to unaccompanied children in care.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, including risk and trauma evaluations, within required federal/agency timelines.
  • Develop individualized treatment and service plans in collaboration with youth, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain regular progress notes, session documentation, and treatment updates in compliance with federal and agency standards.
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions that promote resilience, cultural adjustment, and healthy coping skills.
  • Monitor youth for signs of distress, trauma responses, or mental health needs and intervene promptly when necessary.
  • Facilitate psychoeducation and support groups on topics such as stress management, grief, self-esteem, and coping with change.
  • Participate actively in weekly case review meetings with case management, medical, education, and youth care teams.
  • Collaborate with case managers and federal/agency representatives to ensure timely reunification and appropriate clinical recommendations.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff on trauma-informed care, behavior management, and mental health awareness.
  • Coordinate referrals for psychiatric evaluation, specialized services, or external mental health care as needed.
  • Support family reunification efforts through clinical recommendations, family sessions, and communication with sponsors when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with federal, agency, and licensing requirements.
  • Complete all required assessments, safety plans, and reports within established deadlines.
  • Ensure adherence to professional ethics, confidentiality, and mandatory reporting laws.
  • Participate in internal and external audits or monitoring visits as required.
  • Attend all required federal and agency trainings, including trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and child protection.
  • Engage in regular clinical supervision and seek consultation when handling complex cases.
  • Stay current with research and best practices related to child trauma, migration, and culturally responsive clinical care.
  • Maintain active progress toward licensure if not yet licensed, meeting all state and agency requirements.
  • Participate in and provide support groups and classes to the community and clients of the agency (based on position).
  • Maintain a welcoming environment for families and other community partners.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and PII privacy and security requirements.
  • As with all of our positions, we work as a team and various duties may be assigned at any time including tasks to support other AGH programs/services, cleaning, organizing, child care, attending to the needs of the child in your care or in the office, attendance at meetings, transportation, paperwork, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting To: Lead Clinician

Hiring Rate of Pay: $75,000 per year

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related behavioral discipline that includes clinical experience as part of the program.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of employment (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC, LPCC, Psy.D., Ph.D., etc.).
  • Non-licensed clinicians must be actively pursuing licensure and must obtain licensure within three (3) years of employment.
  • Minimum 2 years of postgraduate clinical experience preferred, ideally with children, youth, or trauma survivors.
  • Bilingual Spanish required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care and culturally competent therapeutic approaches.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in crisis situations.
  • Be able to obtain Criminal and Child Abuse Clearance from the State of California/Department of Justice.
  • Must be available full-time and able to adjust work day/work week to provide services when clients and families need them, which can routinely include evenings and occasionally weekends, in order to ensure coordination and continuity of services.
  • Demonstrate the Understanding of the importance of compliance with HIPAA privacy practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong conflict resolution, communication and organizational skills; with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to adhere to our attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Must pass and remain current in CPR/First Aid.
  • Must be able to effectively utilize computers and basic computer software.
  • Must meet Licensing (or contract if not FFA position) and insurance requirements.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record. Must be at least 18 years old with at least 2 years of driving experience.
  • A Greater Hope includes all employees in the DMV pull notification process, notifying AGH of infractions throughout the process.
  • All Employees are required to report all arrests within 48 hours of arrest as per Licensing requirements.
  • Must pass a drug screen, physical exam, and Tuberculosis skin test.
  • A Greater Hope participates in E-Verify and will verify your Social Security Number.
  • Foster Family Agency experience preferred. (if applicable)

Additional Qualifications

This position is funded through a federal cooperative agreement. Continued employment is contingent upon continued grant funding, federal/agency approval (when applicable), and continued compliance with all federal/agency, licensing, and A Greater Hope personnel requirements.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must:

  • Meet all minimum qualifications established by federal/agency and A Greater Hope for the position.
  • Successfully obtain and maintain a Federal/Agency Suitability Determination , including all required background investigations and clearances, prior to having contact with unaccompanied children.
  • Successfully complete all required criminal history background checks, child abuse and neglect registry checks, fingerprint-based clearances, and other background screenings required by federal/agency, Community Care Licensing (CCL), and A Greater Hope.
  • Successfully complete all required Federal/Agency pre-service, onboarding, annual, and ongoing training within required timeframes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and child-centered services to unaccompanied children.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required for positions designated as bilingual and may be verified through A Greater Hope's language proficiency assessment process.
  • Provide documentation of all required immunizations and authorize A Greater Hope to obtain and verify immunization records through the California Immunization Registry (CAIR) , as applicable.
  • Successfully complete and maintain all required health screenings, physical examinations, tuberculosis (TB) clearance, immunizations, vaccinations, and other medical requirements established by federal/agency, Community Care Licensing (CCL), applicable law, or A Greater Hope policy.
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, registrations, and credentials applicable to the position throughout employment.
  • Comply with all applicable federal/agency policies, federal regulations, state laws, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, confidentiality requirements, and A Greater Hope policies and procedures as a condition of employment.
  • Possess and maintain authorization to work in the United States. Positions requiring transportation duties must maintain a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and insurability under A Greater Hope's automobile insurance policy.

There are physical demands associated with this position. The employee must also be able to remain in a seated position while working in the office. Employees may be required to and must often lift or carry items 10-50 lbs., usually holding it in the hands or arms or on the shoulder. There may be situations where the employee will have to care for the personal needs of infants and children such as managing personal accidents/bathroom support, feeding and, cleaning up infants and children. The employee may be working outside for periods of time in all seasons of weather.

Employees will be required to drive a motor vehicle.

This position requires regular and consistent attendance, excessive unplanned absences are disruptive to our Agency business.

All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children, adolescents and others who are served by our agency. Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, aggression and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.
