Personal Care Worker

Position Summary Personal Care Worker provides personal care services to consumer(s) of IndependenceFirst, supervised directly by the Care Coordinator and by the consumer(s) for whom they provide personal care services. Essential Functions Assisting consumer with getting in and out of bed. Assisting consumer with toileting and incontinent care. Assisting consumer with bathing or showering. Assisting with eating. Assisting with grooming including mouth, denture, hair, shaving and nail care. Assisting with dressing and undressing. Cleaning of eyeglasses and hearing aids. Assisting with mobility and ambulation using gait belt, walker or cane. Performing simple transfers such as bed to chair or wheelchair and reverse. Providing skin care excluding wound care. Preparing and serving meals. Performing light cleaning in areas used during personal care activities. Changing the consumer’s bed, washing bed linens and the consumer’s personal clothing. Additional Responsibilities Completing all time sheets and documenting the consumer’s condition in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner. Keeping the consumer’s information confidential. Minimum Qualifications Adequate training in the provision of personal care services and in each skill assigned; documentation of training is required. Previous experience may be accepted in lieu of formal training. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with the philosophy and concepts of independent living. Ability to understand and follow the consumer’s instructions. Good communication skills and ability to relate well to others. Strong past employment references. Physical strength sufficient to perform required job tasks. Demonstrated dependability and honesty. Ability to work in a one‑on‑one setting and to follow a written plan of duties.
