About the Role The Health Innovations Incubator & Technology Center (HII Tech) at the Center for Disability Services is seeking a hands-on Electrical & Embedded Systems Engineer to design, build, and test innovative systems that support healthcare and assistive technology solutions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of hardware, software, and rapid prototyping, and enjoys translating ideas into real, functional systems. You enjoy building things that have never existed before. You are comfortable working with ambiguity, rapidly learning new technologies, and moving ideas from concept to functional prototype. You take ownership, enjoy solving practical engineering problems, and thrive in multidisciplinary environments. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop embedded systems, integrate sensors, and create scalable prototypes that have real-world impact. You’ll play a key role in developing solutions across healthcare, assistive technology, and experimental engineering projects in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. You will own electronic subsystem from concept through prototyping to final validation. What You’ll Do Design and develop embedded systems using platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and STM32 Create, test, and refine custom PCB designs Integrate sensors, actuators, and electronic subsystems into experimental platforms Build Python-based data acquisition and analysis workflows Support prototyping, debugging, and validation of engineering systems Document designs, processes, and workflows to ensure reproducibility Collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering disciplines You will own electronic subsystems from concept through prototyping and final validation What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field Minimum of 2 years of experience in: Embedded systems development Electronics prototyping and/or PCB design Experience with platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or STM32 Proficiency in Python and/or C/C++ Familiarity with lab instrumentation and testing tools Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Solid documentation and communication abilities Ability to navigate ambiguity while maintaining engineering rigor Preferred Qualifications Background in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Experience in rapid prototyping or product development environments Experience with biomedical, assistive, or sensor-driven systems Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis workflows Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams Masters degree in Electric Engineering and/or Computer science 3-5 years of hands-on experience in electronic prototyping and embedded systems Key Skills & Competencies Strong hands-on design, assembly and electrical validation expertise Ability to work independently and collaboratively Curious, adaptable, and eager to learn by doing Effective communication of technical concepts and results Able to thrive in a fast-moving environment Detail-oriented with a strong focus on safety and quality Clear communication of technical concepts, progress, and risks Work Environment & Physical Requirements Fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines Ability to sit for extended periods and work on a computer Occasionally lift up to 15–25 lbs May require travel to off-site meetings or events Extended periods working at a computer and with equipment Why Join Us?
