POSITION SUMMARY:

The Shop Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of the MJM Engines shop

floor. This role owns workflow management, quality control, and technical execution across machining,

assembly, and diagnostic operations. The Foreman is expected to be present on the shop floor

throughout the day, directing job flow, inspecting work in process and completed jobs, and ensuring

that all shop staff perform to defined technical and quality standards. The Foreman reports directly to

the business owners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Workflow and Operational Efficiency

• Dispatch and sequence all work-in-process daily. Balance workload across machining, assembly, and

diagnostic stations to meet promised delivery dates and shop throughput targets.

• Maintain real-time visibility of WIP status. Identify and resolve bottlenecks before they impact

delivery.

• Coordinate daily with service writers on parts availability, job priorities, and customer

commitments.

• Enforce accurate clock-in / clock-out and job labor documentation, including piece-rate

documentation in compliance with California Labor Code §226.2.

• Deliver a concise weekly operating report to ownership covering throughput, WIP status, comeback

log, and labor efficiency.

Quality Control

• Inspect completed work before release. Enforce documented quality standards across all job types.

• Investigate every comeback. Identify root cause, assign corrective action, and track recurrence.

• Ensure OEM specifications, torque sequences, and tolerance requirements are followed on every

build.

• Drive measurable and sustained reduction in comeback and warranty rates through consistent

process discipline.

Technical Execution

• Provide hands-on technical direction to machinists, assemblers, and technicians on complex builds.

• Verify tooling calibration, machine setup, and measurement discipline across the shop.

• Identify technical skill gaps and coordinate cross-training between machining and assembly

stations.

• Maintain shop equipment in operational condition. Escalate capital repair or replacement needs to

ownership.

Shop Environment and Safety

• Maintain a safe, organized shop floor in compliance with Cal/OSHA requirements.

• Enforce tool discipline and equipment care standards across all shop staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Seven or more years of hands-on engine rebuild experience across blocks, heads, cranks, and

complete assembly.

• Machinist proficiency on Sunnen, Rottler, Serdi, or comparable equipment.

• Three or more years supervising a working shop floor, or equivalent lead-technician experience

with demonstrated results.

• Demonstrated ability to read, apply, and enforce OEM specifications, torque sequences, and

tolerance data.

• Working knowledge of a shop management system (Tekmetric preferred; comparable systems

acceptable).

• Willingness to complete California AB 1825 / SB 1343 supervisor harassment prevention training

within 30 days of hire.

• Valid California driver's license.

• Physically able to work a shop-floor environment: lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and

tolerate noise, heat, and shop chemicals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• ASE Master Engine Machinist certification (M1–M3).

• Experience operating within a piece-rate or production-based compensation environment.

• Marine, diesel, or performance-engine specialization.

• Bilingual English/Spanish.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• Base salary: $85,000 – $100,000 depending on experience.

• Performance bonus: Monthly bonus tied to shop throughput and quality metrics. Structure

finalized with the successful candidate.

• Benefits: Health, dental, and vision coverage. Family coverage available.

• Paid time off: 10 days in year one, 15 days from year two, plus California-mandated paid sick leave.

• Schedule: Full-time, on-site at 222 N. Vinewood Street, Escondido, CA 92029.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Reports directly to the business owners, Derick Brazell and Daniel Brazell. Directly supervises shop-floor

staff across machining, assembly, and technician roles. Coordinates daily with the service-writer team on

job intake, parts, and customer commitments.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS — FIRST 90 DAYS

• Daily dispatch is predictable and documented. Every open job has a defined owner and target

completion date.

• A written comeback log is maintained, with root cause and corrective action documented for every

incident.

• Every technician clocks in, clocks out, and documents labor on every job without prompting.

• WIP status is visible to ownership without inquiry.

• Measurable reduction in comeback rate against baseline.
