WHAT YOU'LL DO


Under the direction of the President, the Vice President of Student Affairs serves as the Chief Student Development Officer and is responsible for the overall design, organization, delivery, supervision, evaluation, and fiscal management of a comprehensive student development program charged with promoting and delivering programs and services that enhance student and staff success, achievement, and retention.

The Vice President of Student Affairs has the oversight for functional areas that include: Admission & Records, Articulation, Student Success Plan, Counseling, Educational Assistance Center (EAC), Transfer/Career Center, Extended Opportunities Programs & Services (EOPS), Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE), CalWORKS, Financial Aid, Student Health Center, International Student Programs, Veterans Affairs, Student Activities, Scholarships, and Outreach and Recruitment. Additional Responsibilities may be assigned or focus areas changed as college needs dictate.
This temporary, interim assignment will be located at Ventura College. The assignment will begin during the summer 2026 semester and could go through June 30, 2027. The assignment may be extended if needed.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an annual enrollment of approximately 19,000 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

Representative Duties


Develop, implement, direct and evaluate student programs and services in support of student college life. E

Develop, direct, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the services, programs, personnel, operations, and activities of the division, including programs, analysis and review, to ensure compliance with Education Code, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards if applicable, district policies, and all contractual agreements between the Governing Board and recognized bargaining units. E

Assist in the recruitment, selection, and development of classified and academic personnel within the unit, and evaluate all personnel in accordance with applicable policies and procedures; plan and project division staffing requirements; monitor proper and efficient use of assigned staff; provide staffing recommendations in compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity principles and guidelines. E

Direct and implement sound fiscal planning in the development and management of the unit budget supervise the preparation and submission of the unit budget and, upon approval, assume overall responsibility for timely and accurate implementation. Develop and implement externally funded initiatives; plan resource allocations for facilities, equipment and technologies that support student service programs. E

Develop and direct student counseling services. Prepare counseling faculty schedules; assigns academic and classified staff to projects; orients new counseling personnel as needed. E

Provide guidance to and receive advice from faculty and/or staff organizations on matters relating to the programs; promote the inclusion of students in the shared decision-making process. E

Review, monitor and participate in the shaping of regional, statewide and national issues concerning community colleges. E

Coordinate the establishment and implementation of unit advisory committees; establish and maintain liaisons with community representatives as participants in the planning, development and modification of unit services and programs. E

Coordinate and prepare timely, accurate and comprehensive reports as required by various federal, state, district and college departments. E

Promote and participate in the application of computer technology to diversion programs and activities; use a variety of computer software to research, enter, modify and retrieve data for preparation of reports, correspondence and other written materials. E

Provide for the administration of student discipline and student due process. E


Keep abreast of emerging services, methodologies, and technologies relevant to student development programming. E

Coordinate and supervise the college's annual graduation ceremony, honors, and scholarships. E

Serve on management councils and other college and district committees. E

Serve as Acting President as directed in the absence of the President. E

Perform other duties as assigned. E

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a master's degree; and
  2. One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.
All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.

SALARY RANGE
$153,011.04 to $205,041.96
With a doctorate add $6,576.48 a year

STARTING SALARY
Dependent on education and experience

Fringe benefits include family medical, dental, life, and vision insurance plans. The work year is 12 calendar months, including 20 vacation days per year, two floating holidays, and an additional three days off during the winter break.

Finally, the letter should give the committee a clear understanding of how s/he will contribute, as a fully participating member of the Ventura County Community College District, in leading the college toward achieving its mission.

C.) A current resume summarizing educational and administrative background and experience.

D.) Official or unofficial copies of college/university transcripts demonstrating attainment of minimum qualifications. Transcripts must show the degree title and the date the degree was conferred or the degree will not be considered for the purpose of determining if you meet minimum qualifications. Diplomas will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts. An official copy of your transcripts will be required upon being hired.

FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS
If you have completed coursework at a foreign institution that is not recognized as accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education, you must include a full evaluation of the foreign transcript with your application materials if you wish for us to consider the coursework. Please include a copy of the foreign transcript that was evaluated. Visit the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education to search for institutions that are recognized as accredited. If you need your transcripts evaluated, please review the list of agencies approved for foreign transcript evaluation . SELECTION PROCESS
A screening committee will review and screen all applications and associated materials. Those candidates deemed by the committee to be most qualified for the position will be invited to an interview. Paid Holidays: The Ventura County Community College District offers 15 paid holidays per year, plus 2 additional floating holidays.

Paid Vacation:
Full-time classified employees earn vacation leave based on years of continuous service:
  • 6 months - 3 years: 8 hours per month, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
  • 3+ - 10 years: 10 hours per month, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
  • 10+ years: 13.3 hours per month, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Classified managers and full-time supervisory and confidential employees accrue 13.33 hours per month for each month they are in paid status, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Health Benefits: The District contributes up to the full premium cost of the PPO 90C or Kaiser HMO plan (whichever is higher) toward any eligible medical plan for full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Dental, vision, and Basic life insurance premiums for full-time employees and their eligible dependents are also District paid.


Benefit providers available to eligible full-time and part-time (50% or more) classified employees include:

  • Medical: Anthem PPO and HMO Plans, Kaiser Permanente HMO Plan
  • Dental: Delta Dental DHMO or PPO Plus Premium
  • Vision: EyeMed PPO Vision Plan
Retirement: Eligible employees in positions of 20 or more hours per week are enrolled in CalPERS (California Public Employees' Retirement System). Paid Sick Leave: All classified employees (probationary and permanent) earn one day of sick leave per month in a paid status, accumulating 12 days per fiscal year for full-time employees. Unused sick leave accumulates without limit.
