Microbiology Technician

Position Microbiology Technician – Regular (US only) Location: 11585 K‑Tel Dr, Minnetonka, MN 55343, USA Compensation: $19.50 per hour Responsibilities Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending. Write identification onto plates so that client and sample numbers can be tracked. Pipette sample solutions into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed. Pour agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process. Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified time and temperature. Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required. Ensure media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence. Maintain knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to complete job responsibilities. Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis. Read plates and tubes to determine the number of organisms in the sample. Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes. Perform housekeeping duties, keeping work areas and equipment clean and sanitized. Participate in cleaning schedules and maintain required samples. Adhere to all safety policies. Support laboratory management in implementing, maintaining, and improving management systems. Perform other related tasks as needed. Qualifications HS Diploma and 1+ year relevant work experience. Basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. Basic computer skills for entering testing data and results. Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies. Planning skills to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure timely completion. Time‑management skills; ability to prioritize samples and tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Attention to detail and analytical skills to determine microorganism concentration. Knowledge of the LIMS required to process client data. Physical dexterity for manipulating samples. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Work Environment The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur. Safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coats, and eyeglasses may be required. The role may involve daily use of the autoclave, lifting analysis materials up to 50 pounds, and extended standing time. Sensitivity to slight color variations is necessary.
