Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Litigation Attorney to join our litigation team to represent corporate clients in complex business disputes. The ideal candidate will manage all phases of commercial litigation from prelitigation counseling and complaint drafting through discovery, motion practice, mediation, and trial. This role requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to clients, as well as contribute to business development and firm growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse docket of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, shareholder and corporate governance conflicts, business torts, and related claims.
• Provide strategic legal counsel to clients on risk assessment, dispute resolution options, and litigation strategy in business and corporate matters.
• Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and settlement agreements with clear, persuasive legal writing.
• Develop and execute discovery plans, including drafting subpoenas, interrogatories, and requests for production; review documents and manage ediscovery workflows.
• Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, coordinate experts, and develop trial themes and exhibits.
• Represent clients at mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings; prepare trial-ready materials and try cases when necessary.
• Negotiate favorable settlements and advise clients on business and contractual implications of dispute outcomes.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and paralegals; delegate tasks, review work product, and provide constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas (e.g., corporate, employment, IP) to provide integrated legal solutions for clients.
• Maintain accurate billing, timekeeping, and case file documentation in accordance with firm and ethical standards.
• Participate in business development activities, including client meetings, proposals, and industry networking to grow the practice.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Admission to practice in Illinois
• 6+ years of commercial litigation experience
• Proven experience handling contract disputes, shareholder litigation, corporate governance matters, and other business-related claims.
• Strong track record drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and dispositive briefs, and experience taking/defending depositions and preparing for trial.
• Excellent legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills, with the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business advice.
• Demonstrated negotiation and courtroom advocacy skills; prior trial or arbitration experience preferred.
• Familiarity with ediscovery platforms, document review processes, and litigation support technologies.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines, supervise junior staff, and communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel.
• Business development aptitude, professional demeanor, and a commitment to client service and ethical practice.
