The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time DATA SCIENTIST, NH-1560-03, to work at the Air Force Materiel Command, (AFMC) in the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) in the Ogden Air Logistics Complex (OO-ALC) with 309 EMXG at HILL AIR FORCE BASE located in LAYTON, UT. 2026 Salary Range: ($89,508 - $138,370) / Yearly with locality

The primary purpose of this position is to provided authoritative direction and data science expertise to a wide range of highly complex, highly visible initiatives and projects focused on the discovery and development of cutting-edge tools and resources to easily access, store, analyze, and exchange complex, high-quality data. The incumbent provides authoritative data science guidance in the development, analysis, and implementation of data programs.

- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical (if applicable)

- The employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include overtime, and/or days, swings, or owl shifts.

- The employee may be required to work during base exercises, contingencies or emergency situations.

- The employee may occasionally travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft IAW Joint Travel Regulations to other government installations, contractor facilities, or other commercial Locations for both training and mission accomplishment.

- Must exhibit a high degree of judgment, resourcefulness, originality, and the ability to foresee the impact of changing technology.

- A bachelor's degree in data science or closely related discipline is highly desired.

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Professional knowledge of quantitative techniques and methods used to conceptualize, develop, adapt, modify, and apply new models to resolve the most difficult problems and to achieve support and for alternative solutions within the scientific community.

2. Knowledge of a broad range of defense department or private sector systems, analytics, machine learning, AI, cognitive science, programs, operations, strategies, tactics, resource and information processes, force structure, and weapons systems. Includes operations research analysis techniques and mastery of scientific and analytical capabilities.

3. Advanced skills in statistical analysis in order to understand the significance of different data set attributes, perform feature engineering, and develop custom data models and algorithms.

4. Skill in working in advanced study teams composed of industry, government, and academic experts; originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies; and execute projects and/or studies within established financial and/or time constraints.

5. Skill to develop and utilize appropriate data collection techniques and design, build and use models and simulation techniques. Ability to research, develop, or apply descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and/or prescriptive models to identify the best AI solution design.

6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiate complex and/or sensitive issues; and maintain good working relations.
