About This Role

We're seeking a dependable and structured Afternoon Support & Closing Teacher to join our childcare team in Portsmouth, VA.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and prefers a later start time.

Our center operates on a structured academic morning model, and our afternoon team ensures a smooth and professional closing each day.

Schedule Options: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM (Option 2: 2:00PM – 6:00 PM, flexible scheduling available)

What You'll Do

Responsibilities:

• Provide classroom support during peak hours and cover teacher breaks to ensure smooth transitions
• Supervise children in a safe and controlled environment, combining classrooms as needed while maintaining licensing ratios per Virginia standards
• Engage students in aftercare activities, homework time, and structured play, promoting learning and development
• Maintain a clean and organized environment to ensure a healthy and stimulating atmosphere
• Follow closing checklist procedures to guarantee a safe and efficient dismissal process
• Ensure a safe and respectful environment for all children, families, and staff members
• Support a team-oriented approach to childcare, promoting collaboration and mutual respect

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must have 1 year of previous experience working with preschool children in a group setting
• Background check is required
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role
