As a Cash Application Specialist, you'll play a critical role in supporting the financial health of the organization by ensuring customer payments are accurately applied and reconciled. Your attention to detail, analytical mindset, and commitment to accuracy help keep our accounts receivable processes running smoothly while supporting strong cash flow and exceptional customer service.

What You'll Do

• Accurately apply customer payments received through checks, ACH, wire transfers, lockbox services, and credit card transactions.
• Reconcile daily cash receipts to customer accounts and general ledger entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Research and resolve payment discrepancies, including short pays, overpayments, unapplied cash, and misapplied payments.
• Post customer payments timely and accurately while maintaining the integrity of accounts receivable records.
• Communicate with customers and internal teams to resolve payment-related questions and discrepancies.
• Monitor and maintain unapplied cash balances, ensuring payments are allocated appropriately.
• Generate and review reports related to cash applications, aging accounts, and payment activity.
• Support month-end closing activities through reconciliations and cash application reporting.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records within accounting and ERP systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and support automation initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and internal controls.
• At Coastal, we win as a team. Once your assigned work is complete, you'll jump in to support your teammates and assist with other accounting and administrative needs as directed by your supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Previous experience in cash application, accounts receivable, banking operations, or a related accounting role.
• Strong understanding of cash application processes and accounts receivable functions.
• Proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with high-volume transaction processing is a plus.
