Then we are looking for you! This is a full-time position located in Augusta. Core Responsibilities: The DHHS Financial Service Center is seeking an accounting professional. In this position, you will: • Contribute to the department's mission by preparing, scanning, and processing payments accurately and efficiently. • Review financial transactions to ensure accuracy, proper documentation, and correct payment disbursement through accounting software. • Analyze transactions requiring additional review to determine appropriate processing and resolve discrepancies in compliance with departmental policies, federal regulations, and state statutes. • Perform daily reconciliation tasks to verify that all transactions are accurate, safeguarded, and processed in a timely manner. • Collaborate with team members to resolve issues, streamline processes, and support a culture of teamwork and customer service by assisting colleagues with daily operational needs. • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers by responding to inquiries promptly, professionally, and with a solution-focused approach. The DHHS Financial Service Center is a supportive and friendly environment that fosters professional growth, teamwork, and collaboration with DHHS. The impact of your work will be felt throughout significant programs that provide critical services to Maine's most needy population. You will be satisfied knowing you have helped DHHS executives and program managers deliver vital services to the people of Maine. Minimum Qualifications: Entry-level to intermediate education, training, and/or experience in accounting or another closely related field demonstrating competency applying accounting principles, reviewing and processing business transactions, and preparing reports. The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies: • Possess good critical thinking skills, be flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced environment
• Basic understanding of Accounting Practices and Controls
• Prior experience and/ or education which demonstrates knowledge of GAAP/ GASB, analyzing accounting data and accounting reconciliations. Thinking about applying? The Service Center works collaboratively with senior leadership at State agencies, providing consultative financial and accounting services. Areas of fiscal expertise include compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, statewide budgetary policy, budget development and monitoring, application of generally accepted accounting and financial practices, grant management, financial analysis, cash management, accounting and financial processing, and legislative support.
