Adjunct Music Instructor - Piano

Position Information Position Title Position Title Adjunct Music Instructor - Piano FLSA FLSA Exempt Contract Length N/A Class Summary College of the Mainland is seeking qualified Adjunct Music Instructors to provide onsite group piano instruction and individual applied piano lessons. Additional classroom or online teaching assignments may be available based on departmental needs and instructor qualifications. This posting is intended to establish a pool of qualified candidates for current and future adjunct teaching opportunities, contingent upon enrollment and program needs. Position Type Position Type Adjunct Employment Status Employment Status Part Time Position Funding Position Funding Regular Master’s Degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Music with Piano Performance or Piano Pedagogy major. Minimum of two (2) years of recent teaching experience. Preferred Education/Training/Experience Doctorate in Music with Piano Performance or Piano Pedagogy major. Classroom teaching experience, including but not limited to class piano. Applied music experience is also preferred. Detailed knowledge of the subject matter taught within the assigned courses and program area. Knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching group piano classes and/or applied music lessons. Knowledge of student engagement techniques, learning styles, retention strategies, and a learning-centered instructional philosophy. Experience with, or willingness to learn, current instructional technologies and online teaching methods for courses such as Music Appreciation and American Music. Basic computer literacy sufficient to perform assigned job duties. Knowledge of instructional record-keeping procedures. Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange information, receive work direction, and interact effectively with students, coworkers, supervisors, and members of the public. Preferred Knowledge & Skills Experience in recruiting a private lesson studio; skills in hybrid and/or online teaching. Job Duties Teach assigned courses, which may include Class Piano, Applied Music, American Music, and Music Appreciation, based on qualifications and departmental needs. Prepare and submit course syllabi and other required instructional documents using the College’s approved templates and established deadlines. Maintain a minimum of one scheduled office hour per week for each assigned course to provide students with academic support. Submit final grades and other required instructional records by established College deadlines. Notify the department chair when enrolled students express interest in music activities or indicate that they may be considering a music major. Participate in departmental recruitment activities as needed. Maintain appropriate professional credentials and professional affiliations outside the College, such as membership in the Music Teachers National Association. Comply with all College policies, procedures, and applicable safety requirements; support College activities; and attend required meetings and training. Licensing/Certification Requirements none Physical Requirements Moderate physical demand. Must be able to stoop, bend, lift up to 25 pounds, and assist in setup for studio class, recitals, juries if teaching private lessons.
