Motor Vehicle Specialist: The Motor Vehicle (MV) Specialist is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and being an effective team player while performing a variety of duties associated with Arapahoe County’s Motor Vehicle division. This is an entry level position and must complete an 8 week in house training and maintain a satisfactory performance rating. Upon successful completion, the MV Specialist will have basic knowledge of Colorado requirements and be proficient in the motor vehicle system. The MV Specialist may be reviewed after a period of hands‑on training to determine eligibility to progress to the next level. Progression is determined by various factors, including but limited to; performance, error rates, professionalism, customer service skills, ability to remain calm and effectively communicate in a stressful and demanding work environment, punctuality and attendance, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, the public and management. With NO prior experience performing Motor Vehicle functions or working in a Motor Vehicle office, our anticipated starting rate is: $21.00/hour Senior Motor Vehicle Specialist: The Senior Motor Vehicle (MV) Specialist is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and being an effective team player while performing a variety of complex duties associated with Arapahoe County’s Motor Vehicle division. The Senior MV Specialist must have successfully met the proficiency standards, primary duties, and job function requirements of the MV Specialist and is required to work independently on all transactions performed as a MV Specialist. This position holds a higher level of knowledge within motor vehicle and provides additional complex support.

NOTE:

The anticipated hiring range for a Motor Vehicle Specialist is $21.00 to $24.53 per hour, dependent upon qualifications. The anticipated hiring range for a Senior Motor Vehicle Specialist is $23.73 to $29.66 per hour, dependent upon qualifications.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Motor Vehicle Specialist performs entry level administrative, and professional work in carrying out a comprehensive public facing service operation. This position specifically supports the work of the Motor Vehicle specialists, which includes vehicle titling, vehicle registration and customer service.

DUTIES:

Assist Motor Vehicle customers at the counter, by telephone and mail by providing specific, complete and accurate information. Records, scans and processes documents into Colorado’s DRIVES financial vehicle database. Works with customers in a professional and tactful manner to resolve complaints or questions. Assists with supporting new and developing employees by delivering on‑job support; and communicating best practices to staff through engagement and discussions. Keeps up to date on state, federal and local statutes, policies and guidelines and incorporates new developments into on‑job sharing with peers. Supports long and short term projects, as assigned by their Motor Vehicle Supervisor, such as providing support to other motor vehicle specialists, coordinating service coverage, ensuring goals/workloads are being met and making recommendations into process/policy efficiencies. Responsible for their daily cash drawer reconciliation process. Provides clerical and administrative support for the Division as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills, Abilities and Competencies: Ability to read, understand, and interpret state statutes, regulations, and procedures applicable to the Motor Vehicle division. Ability to become proficient in using and understanding the functions of the computerized Motor Vehicle system. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to research multiple sources for information. Ability to memorize information and handle cash with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to multitask in a high stress environment is essential. Effective verbal and written communications. Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of personal computer equipment and software such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook Flexible, punctual, reliable, and willing to work paid overtime if necessary. Ability to engage with customers and coworkers in a professional, articulate, and friendly manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public, and supervisors. Ability to exercise tact and discretion in handling confidential information. Possession of a valid Class “R” Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment. Security clearance required: will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check Post-Employment Requirements: Must be able to work nights and weekends based on business need Work locations and facilities are subject to change based on business need

Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position. Spends 70% of the time sitting and 30% of the time either standing or walking. Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs. Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 20 lbs. Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties. Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions. Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment. Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work‑related equipment. Definitions: Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time. Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time. Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
