Claim Compensation Overview Salary range: $85,600.00 – $141,200.00. The actual salary will be determined by factors such as scope, complexity, location, skills, education, and experience. Employees are eligible for performance‑based cash incentive awards. Target openings: 2. What Is the Opportunity? Under general supervision, you will investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate, and resolve assigned Specialty Liability claims involving Bodily Injury and Property Damage. You will provide quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle, maintain compliance with internal and external quality standards, and serve as a consulting resource to the field and business partners. What Will You Do? Handle assigned claims, ensuring file quality and timely coverage analysis and communication with insured parties. Consult with Manager on Claim Coverage Counsel usage as needed. Investigate each claim by contacting policyholders, claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, agents, medical providers and technical experts to determine liability, damages, and contribution potential. Interview witnesses, take statements, and determine the extent of injury or property damage through records and documentation. Maintain claim files and document activities in accordance with procedures. Utilize evaluation documentation tools and create Claim File Analysis (CFA) following quality standards. Manage claim diaries to ensure timely handling of all claims. Evaluate liability and damages exposure, establish reserves, and recommend cases for discussion at roundtables. Develop and employ creative resolution strategies, negotiate dispositions, and recognize alternate means of resolution. Manage litigated claims, develop litigation plans, track legal expenses, and assure cost-effective resolution. Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre‑trials, trials, and other legal proceedings as needed. Provide mentoring and coaching to junior claim professionals. Evaluate claims for recovery potential and direct recovery efforts. Perform other duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. 5 years of business experience. Advanced knowledge of claim and litigation processes and relevant case law. Basic working knowledge of various business line products. Strong negotiation, customer service, coverage, liability, and damages analysis skills. Extensive claim and/or legal experience for severe and complex claims. Ability to make independent decisions on most assigned cases. Tactful communication and ability to simplify complex data for varied audiences. Proficiency with business technology tools for research, tracking, and communication. Analytical thinking, judgment, communication, negotiation, and intermediate knowledge of insurance contracts, principles of investigation, value determination, settlement techniques, legal and medical knowledge. Minimum Requirements (Must Have) High School Diploma or GED. 2 years of liability claim handling experience and/or comparable litigation claim experience. Potential acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) within three months of starting the job, if required by state and Travelers requirements.
