Job Title: Metal Finisher Job Description

The Metal Finisher grinds, deburrs, and finishes fabricated metal parts using angle grinders, hand files, and related tools to ensure all components meet strict quality and customer specifications. This role performs visual and dimensional inspections, maintains tools and equipment, and keeps the work area safe and organized while working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Candidates typically bring 1–3 years of experience in metal finishing, grinding, or a manufacturing production setting and demonstrate strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Grind, deburr, and finish fabricated metal parts using angle grinders, hand grinders, hand files, and other finishing tools.
• Remove sharp edges, burrs, weld splatter, and surface imperfections from metal components to achieve smooth, consistent finishes.
• Operate angle grinders, hand files, and other finishing equipment safely and efficiently in a production environment.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections of completed parts to verify conformance to drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements.
• Identify defects or nonconforming conditions on finished parts and take appropriate corrective actions or escalate issues when necessary.
• Read and follow written work instructions, drawings, and production documents to complete jobs accurately and on schedule.
• Use basic measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Ensure all finished products meet established quality standards and customer specifications before release to the next operation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following 5S and housekeeping practices.
• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and basic care of grinders, files, and other finishing tools and equipment.
• Work collaboratively with production and fabrication teams to support high-quality metal fabrication and manufacturing operations.
• Follow fabrication shop safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety procedures.
• Lift, move, and handle metal components throughout the shift while maintaining safe body mechanics.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by suggesting process improvements related to finishing quality, efficiency, and safety.

Essential Skills

• 1–3 years of experience in metal finishing, grinding, deburring, or manufacturing production environments.
• Hands-on experience using angle grinders, hand grinders, hand files, and related finishing tools.
• Ability to grind, deburr, and finish fabricated metal parts to a high-quality standard.
• Demonstrated ability to remove sharp edges, burrs, weld splatter, and surface imperfections from metal components.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and production documents.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality standards and customer specifications.
• Experience performing visual and dimensional inspections of completed parts.
• Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges.
• Experience working safely with metal fabrication equipment and in a fabrication shop environment.
• Ability to lift, move, and handle metal components safely throughout the shift.
• Familiarity with fabrication shop safety practices and consistent use of required PPE.
• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precise finishing work.
• Ability to stand, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a strong, positive work ethic.
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively in a production setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or metal finishing environment for 1–3 years.
• Exposure to sheet metal fabrication processes.
• Basic blueprint reading skills to understand part requirements and finishing standards.
• Comfort using calipers, gauges, and other basic inspection tools.
• Interest in developing metalworking and fabrication skills over time.
• Willingness to follow established processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and metal fabrication facility with exposure to metal dust, noise, sparks, and industrial equipment. The facility is climate controlled and requires the consistent use of personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe shoes. The position involves frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and handling metal components throughout the shift while working around fabrication machinery and finishing equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $49920.00/yr.
