Job Summary The Mine Electrician is responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of high voltage (HV) electrical systems that support reliable operations at the Curlew mine. This role ensures the integrity and availability of critical power distribution infrastructure—including transformers, substations, switchgear, and overhead/underground distribution systems, and 480v and 120v systems on the underground mobile fleet. The position plays a key role in system reliability, operational continuity, and the safe execution of electrical work, in alignment with Kinross values, policies, and all MSHA and regulatory requirements. Essential Functions Participate in planning, installation, commissioning, and upgrade projects for high voltage electrical systems and distribution infrastructure across the Curlew mine site. Install, inspect, maintain, test, and repair high voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, substations, and overhead/underground power lines. Test, repair, install and maintain 480v and 120v systems on the mobile underground fleet of Development jumbos, bolters, and Production drills. Install and maintain the mine’s communications network infrastructure such as Femco mine phones, leaky feeder, and assist with network communications such as fiber optic. Conduct high voltage switching operations, isolations/LOTO, grounding procedures, and energization of circuits in accordance with KRO procedures, MSHA requirements, and electrical codes. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve faults in high voltage distribution systems using specialized test equipment, schematics, and technical standards. Perform routine thermography, insulation resistance testing, contact resistance testing, relay checks, and other preventive maintenance tasks. Maintain readiness of critical HV components and ensure appropriate inventory levels for rapid response to system failures or operational disruptions. Support coordination between electrical, maintenance, operations, and engineering teams during outages, shutdowns, and system upgrades. Ensure all HV work is performed safely, meeting Kinross SafeGround expectations and following NFPA 70E, MSHA, NEC, and company electrical standards. Document maintenance, inspections, switching activities, testing results, and repair work in the CMMS for compliance, traceability, and long-term reliability tracking. Mentor and support lower-level electricians in safe HV work practices, reinforcing a safety-first culture. Participate in energy efficiency and cost reduction initiatives related to power distribution reliability and usage. Maintain strong housekeeping and ensure all tools, PPE, and equipment are inspected and maintained in proper working conditions. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications and Skills High school diploma or GED required. Electrical trade qualification or diploma, with HV Switching Operator certification and current electrical license (Grade A or equivalent) preferred. 5+ years of experience working at an underground mining operation. Experience maintaining and repairing transformers, substations, breakers, relays, and switchgear. Strong knowledge of high voltage switching procedures, arc flash safety, and electrical isolation practices. Ability to read and interpret HV diagrams, one-line drawings, and electrical schematics. Proficient in troubleshooting HV faults with appropriate diagnostic tools. Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams. Strong understanding of MSHA regulations, NEC, NFPA 70E, and other applicable electrical safety standards. Able to prioritize work, respond effectively to urgent electrical issues, and manage conflicting priorities. Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and mentoring less experienced personnel. Work performed indoors and outdoors in a remote mine site environment, with exposure to weather, heights, energized equipment, and high-voltage hazards. Valid driver's license and authorized to work in the US. Health, Safety, and Environmental Requirements Adheres to all safety and environmental considerations.
