Requirement/Must Have:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Perform decontamination and update patient information.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Fully understand all physician orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place in appropriate collection containers.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Assist in troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
