Cultural Facilitator/Conductor - Wabnode Centre (Appendix D)

Position Summary Cambrian College’s Wabnode Centre for Indigenous Services has an immediate requirement for a full-time Cultural Facilitator/Conductor on a leave replacement basis. Responsibilities Implement cultural teaching programs which includes regular class visits, workshops and support to academic areas with regard to Indigenous knowledge, cultural diversity and cultural safety. Facilitate and conduct events, workshops, ceremonies and classes that promote traditional healing and wellness. Responsible for Sacred Fire Arbour, Tee Pee, storage shed, etc. Coordinate Elders program including language classes, teaching circles, and counselling support. Assist in scheduling of on campus hours, in class visits and in services to students and staff. Community engagement that develops partnerships with programs and services with external partners. Support for community-based delivery and satellite campuses implementing cultural teachings and health and wellness. Develop cultural curriculum material and translations of Indigenous knowledge to be implemented in a variety of internal and external activities. Qualifications Must have a three‑year postsecondary diploma, degree, or equivalent in Sociology, Psychology, Education, Community and Social Services or a related field. A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application. For education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application. Minimum of eight years of practical experience working with Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Additionally, this individual will have experience working with community engagement processes and Aboriginal students. Experience working in an environment that requires wide‑ranging cultural knowledge and practice, and extensive experience with traditional Aboriginal inculcation including medicines, protocols for engagement, ceremonial etiquette, and working with traditional knowledge keepers, healers, and medicine people. Knowledge of Indigenous Engagement with Communities and Indigenous Peoples. Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, worldview and traditions. Excellent analytical skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise good judgment. Excellent planning and organisational skills and problem‑solving skills. Must be a self‑directed and energetic professional with the ability to work independently as well as within a team‑oriented environment. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well, and work directly and respectfully with students, College staff, and members of the community of varying cultures or backgrounds.
