Certified Nurse Assistant/Ward Clerk - Behavioral Health

Overview This position provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care. It is responsible for ongoing patient data collection and documentation in the medical records, and provides a variety of unit support functions that contribute to the efficient operation of the nursing unit/department. Shift Schedule 12‑hour shifts Alternating Wed/Thurs/Friday and Thurs/Fri/Sat Responsibilities Assist with activities of daily living, basic hygiene, mobility maintenance, and nutritional intake as needed. Collect patient specimens and data, including vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements in accordance with unit/facility policy and standards of care; document objective data and routine aspects of patient care; assist with transportation of specimens. Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient health status and responses to treatment; communicate accurately and completely to other caregivers. Perform procedures and use equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, consistent with demonstrated competencies and state scope of practice; may include blood draws, Foley catheter removals, EKGs, and EKG monitoring. Perform receptionist/clerical duties to support overall operating efficiency and effective communication; resolve customer problems or collect necessary data and follow through to resolution. Maintain a complete patient record with admission, transfer, discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms; ensure all reports and chart forms are scanned or filed. Label and keep charting forms accessible; maintain adequate supplies of frequently used patient education materials; assist in ordering specimens; transcribe and process physician orders accurately using the electronic medical record. Maintain adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies; complete requisition forms; reconcile supply orders upon delivery; monitor and track electronic equipment such as patient ID scanners and laptops. Assist with transporting patients, including pre‑operative and immediate post‑operative patients to the critical care unit; participate in OR room turnover. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating core and leadership behaviors each day. Specific tasks or responsibilities will be documented as outlined by the incumbent's immediate manager. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Current BLS certification. Current CNA license in the state of practice may be required in certain facilities and/or departments in accordance with regulatory requirements or facility/department policy. Depending on department assignment, completion of a unit‑approved basic electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course or on‑the‑job training and a minimum passing score of 85% on an ECG or EEG test, with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias or epileptiform activity. Requires skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior experience in customer service. Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy and keyboarding skills is required. Preferred Qualifications Recent healthcare experience preferred. Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program is preferred.
