Senior Scientist I - II, Computational HitGen / LeadGen

AbbVie seeks a Senior Scientist to develop and deploy computational methods for AI-enabled hit and lead generation in small molecule drug discovery. This role requires expertise in machine learning, cheminformatics, and medicinal chemistry to support cross-functional project teams.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project teams to define hit and lead criteria aligned with project objectives
• Develop and maintain expertise with computational methods available to the team
• Select and implement appropriate computational approaches for specific project goals
• Communicate methodology rationale and design implications to cross-functional teams
• Contribute to development of workflows for predicting binding affinities, pharmacological properties, and synthetic feasibility

Requirements

• Degree in chemistry, computer science, machine learning, cheminformatics, or chemical engineering
• 8-12+ years developing machine learning models on chemical and biological data (varies by degree level)
• Proficiency in modern computational medicinal chemistry and machine learning/deep learning approaches
• Programming experience in common languages such as Python for implementing computational tools
• Knowledge of molecular generation, affinity prediction, pose prediction, and pharmacological property modeling
• Familiarity with retrosynthetic analysis and synthetic tractability evaluation
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
