Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN)We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Psychiatric Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in a Psychiatric Unit. The ideal candidate will have a significant background in acute inpatient settings, particularly with both adolescent and adult patients.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide high-quality nursing care to patients in a psychiatric unit.Assist with patient evaluations and the development of care plans.Implement therapeutic interventions, including de-escalation techniques.Participate in 15-minute patient rounds and engage actively in patient care.Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including mental health technicians and occupational therapy staff.Comply with safety protocols, including the use of emergency buttons and security measures.Float to different units as necessary to support patient care needs.Scheduling and Work ConditionsShifts available: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.Self-scheduling based on seniority within a union environment.Weekend and holiday work required every other cycle.Orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts specific to the unit.Dress code: Any color scrubs except maroon; business casual attire is also permitted.QualificationsMinimum of 2 years of experience in acute or inpatient psychiatric settings.Valid BLS Certification; CPI certification preferred.Strong communication and de-escalation skills.Comfortable with a diverse patient population experiencing various psychiatric conditions.Patient PopulationThe unit comprises 25 licensed beds, currently providing care for 3 adult patients and up to 6 adolescent patients. Common diagnoses include:Depression and anxietySubstance abuse (alcohol and other substances)Psychosis, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and personality disordersSupport ServicesMental health technicians and aids available for support, with a favorable nurse-to-patient ratio.Occupational therapy services available Monday through Friday.Respiratory therapy support is provided as needed.Attributes for SuccessSuccessful candidates will demonstrate patience, strong interpersonal skills, and a proactive approach to patient care. An ability to remain calm under pressure and to manage challenging situations effectively is crucial.This position is based in a locked unit specializing in child and adolescent inpatient care and requires high levels of engagement from nursing staff in various patient care activities.
