Laboratory TechnicianUnder the direction of the area supervisor, ensure that the daily activities of the department are completely accurately and on time. Maintain a safe and professional environment for clients and employees. Perform specimen collection and processing duties following established policies and procedures. Act as a coach, mentor, instructor, and resource person for new employees. Works in conjunction with and under the supervision of the medical technologists at times.Responsibilities:Compliance & QualityFollow all policies, procedures, safety, and infection prevention standards; report issues promptlyMaintain proficiency in phlebotomy and laboratory proceduresSpecimen HandlingCollect, label, process, and package specimens accurately and on timeInvestigate and document specimen-related issuesCommunicationProvide professional service to patients, clients, and staffVerify orders, billing, and required information; escalate concerns as neededAdministrative SupportComplete clerical tasks and required documentation/logsOperations & Team SupportManage phlebotomy schedules and ensure adequate staffing levelsPrioritize/delegate tasks and support team initiativesMaintain clean, stocked, and organized work areasLeadership & TrainingDemonstrate strong leadership skillsTrain and mentor new staff as assignedQualifications:High School diploma or equivalentCertification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.Minimum 2 years experience, looking for 3-4 years experience.Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience is preferred.Must have the ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.Must interact with other departments.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewalAct 33 with renewalAct 34 with renewalAct 73 FBI Clearance with renewalUPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
