8466 Claims Consultant

Job Summary This position reports to the Manager – Operations Claims and focuses on investigating and defending PSEG against third‑party allegations of negligence resulting in property damage, personal injuries, or loss of PSEG assets. Job Responsibilities Conduct investigations of general, auto, and property damage liability claims, including personal injury cases requiring field work. Collect, secure, and evaluate company and non‑company records, such as paper documents and electronic files. Interview customers, witnesses, internal clients, state/county/local officials, insurance representatives, and other parties to gather relevant facts. Apply knowledge of PSEG operating policies, applicable tariffs, civil and criminal statutes, and case law to evaluate matters promptly. Handle customer complaint issues requested by the utility, customer relations, and/or governmental affairs. Assess liability and damages, evaluate financial and other risks, and negotiate settlements within claim settlement authority. Serve as an On‑Duty Officer for emergencies and major operating matters, responding 24/7/365 as needed. Defend PSEG and recover losses from third‑party transgressions, including asset damage and relocation costs. Job Specific Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of utility, investigation, or insurance claim experience. Strong verbal and written communication, interview, and negotiation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Ability to work under hostile or adverse conditions, including extreme weather, accidents, and abnormal hours. Valid driver’s license in the state of domicile. Compliance with DOE regulation 10 CFR 810 required. Knowledge of the energy industry's operating infrastructure. Bachelor’s degree required. Industry certification in claims, law, insurance, audit, or forensics beneficial. Understanding of civil, criminal, and labor law.
