Summary The Nurse Anesthetist administers anesthesia under medical direction for diversified surgical cases, utilizing inhalation, intravenous, spinal, or rectal agents. Emphasis is on skilled application of appropriate professional techniques, constant review of anesthetized patients' condition during surgery, and completion of remedial measures to counteract unfavorable clinical conditions. Incumbents are also responsible for immediate pre‑operative and post‑operative care of patients in the induction and recovery from anesthesia. Work is performed in accordance with recognized professional principles and techniques. All procedures and techniques utilized during anesthesia for surgery are subject to supervision by the attending anesthesiologist assigned to that area. Location Miami, FL – On Call/Pool Anesthesia Unit Responsibilities Participate and accurately document patients pre‑anesthetic preparation and evaluation. Formulate a patient‑specific plan for anesthesia care in collaboration with the attending anesthesiologist. Implement, monitor, and adjust patients' physiologic condition as appropriate for the type of anesthesia and specific patient needs. Recognize abnormal patient response to anesthesia and adjunct medications; take appropriate action. Demonstrate ability to work in a stressful environment by prioritizing and implementing corrective action based on the situation. Observe, monitor, and resuscitate patients en route to recovery room or to special care unit according to protocol. Provide a concise comprehensive anesthesia report to recovery room or unit nurse according to protocol. Transfer the responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post‑operatively to assure continuity of care and patient safety. Support operating room procedures. Keep patient informed of their medical condition and the course of treatment being prescribed. Function independently in executing the day‑to‑day operational and administrative management duties in the absence of the Chief CRNA. Participate in additional areas of responsibility within the expertise of the individual CRNA. Assume responsibility for professional development of self and contribute to and assist with the professional development of others. Initiate search of anesthesia and related literature, suggest changes and improvement in patient care standards. Function as a clinical educator for student registered nurse anesthetists. Follow and perform all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check‑list. Utilize job and unit specific equipment as required. Experience Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience. Education Master's degree in Nursing is required. Unit Specific Competencies: Must have clinical knowledge, skill, and ability to fully and accurately complete all required unit competencies, as indicated in the unit competency check‑list. Credentials Valid Florida licensed RN/CRNA or eligibility for licensure as CRNA/Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. National Board Certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. American Heart Association and any additional applicable life‑support certification for healthcare providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licenses as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty. Unit Specific Credential AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) – 6 months validity AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Working Conditions Physical Requirements Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
