RN – Nurse Educator, Surgical ServicesLocation: Chicago, IL (Onsite) Job Type: Full-Time Shift: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Positions: 1 The RN – Nurse Educator for Surgical Services is responsible for leading clinical education, staff development, and competency validation within the Operating Room (OR). This role combines hands-on clinical expertise with education leadership, ensuring high-quality perioperative care and adherence to best practices. The educator will actively participate in surgical procedures (scrub role), mentor staff, and drive continuous improvement in clinical standards, patient safety, and operational efficiency.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan, coordinate, and deliver education programs for OR staff (RNs, Surgical Techs, ancillary staff)Develop orientation and ongoing competency-based training programsAssess learning needs and implement targeted development plansServe as a clinical resource for new techniques and surgical advancementsScrub into surgical cases to mentor staff and support proceduresEnsure adherence to sterile techniques and AORN guidelinesMaintain competency in both scrub and circulating rolesApply nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluationEnsure compliance with regulatory and quality standardsParticipate in quality improvement and patient safety initiativesPartner with Patient Care Directors and leadership teamsSupport staff development and professional advancementParticipate in hospital committees as an education consultantMust-Have QualificationsBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – RequiredActive RN License – Illinois4+ years of OR / Surgical Services experienceStrong expertise in: Sterile technique & aseptic practicesScrub nurse responsibilities across specialtiesSurgical procedures and patient safetyPreferred QualificationsCNOR CertificationACLS (or within 1 year of hire)Experience in clinical education / training rolesCore CompetenciesStrong clinical judgment & critical thinkingLeadership and mentoring skillsExcellent communication (verbal & written)Ability to work in fast-paced surgical environmentsCommitment to patient-centered careWork EnvironmentSurgical Services / Operating RoomRequires standing for extended periods in sterile conditionsHands-on involvement in surgical proceduresAdditional RequirementsCOVID-19 vaccination (with applicable exemptions)Commitment to confidentiality and patient care excellence
