Setup Technician

The Setup Technician supports mobile office installations at a variety of customer sites by assisting with the setup, knockdown, and service of modular trailers and related structures. This role is hands-on and physically active, involving work at heights, use of power tools, and tasks such as seaming offices together, installing ramps and stairs, and placing interior furnishings and temporary walls. You will ride along with experienced drivers or service technicians to customer locations, where you help prepare units for use and ensure they are safely and properly installed.

Responsibilities

  • Ride along with drivers or field service technicians to customer sites and assist with the setup and knockdown of mobile office trailers, including single-wide units.
  • Unload trailers onsite and install ramps, stairs, canopies, skirting, and other access components, including lifting canopy steps overhead as needed.
  • Perform duties essential to setting up units, such as anchoring with a hammer drill, blocking and leveling, interior and exterior seaming, VAPS installation, and ramp placement.
  • Measure and cut materials for skirting installation using tools such as a chop saw, and assist with ADA ramp installations.
  • Complete tasks essential to the knockdown of buildings, including building shipping walls, securing exterior walls, separating buildings, disconnecting utilities and mate-line crossovers, and preparing units for shipment.
  • Clean and restore job sites after work is completed by removing installations such as blocks, steps, anchors, ramps, ABS pads, and steel piers.
  • Perform service work for customer units on the road, which may include basic electrical and plumbing tasks and other customer modifications.
  • Assist with additional jobs such as fencing and other setup-related tasks when skirting or ramp work is not required.
  • Complete Work Orders and Service Orders accurately using the Field Service Application or other designated systems.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in proper working condition, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment while following safety procedures and best practices at all times.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, sales staff, contractors, shop personnel, and co-workers through clear communication and professional conduct.
  • Perform duties that may align with Branch Service Tech or Field Service Tech responsibilities as business needs require.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 2+ years of carpentry experience, with strong hands-on skills and familiarity with construction trades.
  • At least 2+ years of experience in other trades, such as light electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing ladders, working at heights, crawling under trailers, and lifting materials overhead.
  • Clean and current valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Basic carpentry skills including measuring, cutting, drilling anchors with a hammer drill, and assembling structural components.
  • Ability to perform light electrical and plumbing tasks safely and accurately.
  • Some computer literacy to complete Work Orders and Service Orders via field service applications.
  • Good verbal communication skills for interacting with customers, sales teams, contractors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to work independently and stay productive in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
  • Strong safety mindset and adherence to established safety procedures while working on active sites and at heights.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience with trailer repair or mobile office setup and knockdown is preferred.
  • Experience with customer relationship management or direct customer service is beneficial.
  • Background in working with multiple trades or coordinating with other trade professionals is a plus.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience is an advantage but not required.
  • Experience using power tools such as hammer drills and chop saws in a construction or field service environment.
  • Comfort working on construction sites, manufacturing facilities, and event venues such as concerts or sporting events.
  • Ability to learn and follow company-specific procedures for anchoring, leveling, seaming, and installing ramps and skirting.
  • Interest in growing into a driving or more advanced field service role once eligible and hired directly.

The role involves outdoor and indoor work in varying weather conditions, frequent use of ladders, and tasks performed at heights and underneath trailers. You will regularly handle power tools such as hammer drills and chop saws, as well as other construction equipment. The pace is fast and hands-on, with a focus on safety, proper tool maintenance, and teamwork. Work attire should be appropriate for construction and industrial settings, including sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for physical labor and exposure to the elements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brighton, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
