Maintenance Specialist

Position Overview Provide quality cleanliness oversight to assigned building(s). Pay Range USD $17.10/Hr. – USD $19.76/Hr.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain cleanliness in assigned areas within the facility. This includes floor care (mopping, sweeping, buffing, stripping and waxing), cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, separating recyclables, emptying garbage, wiping windows and walls, and cleaning stairways. Carry out minor repairs and building maintenance throughout assigned areas of the facility. Responsible for exterior snow and ice removal as well as upkeep of the grounds, including sidewalk maintenance, landscaping, and all other aspects of the building exterior. Assist staff with special events by setting chairs and tables up, ensuring the area is clean and safe for all. Maintain building maintenance tools and machinery to ensure all items are in good working condition. If no superintendent, order cleaning supplies, paper supplies, lightbulbs, garbage bags, etc., and maintain a biweekly inventory. Assist in moving and storing program supplies, office furniture, office equipment, dorm furniture, consumer belongings, and other items in and around the facility when appropriate. Comply with all SUS Employee Policies, Procedures and Protocols and SUS Cooperate Compliance Policies. Be willing to assist when emergencies arise in the facility. Wear SUS maintenance uniform, ensuring it is clean and presentable at the start of each shift. Complete other tasks assigned by Director or Superintendent. Attend staff meetings, group supervision, and trainings as needed. Assist with apartment turnover following move‑outs to prepare apartments for new families, including plastering, sanding walls, painting, and transporting residents and property to new units. Assist super with the maintenance of the building. Qualifications At least one year of maintenance & cleaning experience in a large residential or program setting. Good interpersonal skills. Minimum one year experience working with mentally ill individuals within a residential or scatter‑site program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

High School Diploma or GED preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish speaking preferred. Experience working within a Supportive Housing setting is beneficial. HS Diploma or GED required. Minimum one year experience as a repair‑person. Valid NY State Driver’s License.
