Medical Director

Job Summary: Primary function is oversight of physician services and the medical component of the Hospice. Responsibilities include promoting and maintaining the standards of practice consistent with quality hospice care. Responsible for the palliation and management of the patient’s terminal illness and conditions related to the terminal illness in conjunction with the patient’s attending physician. Serves as a member of Interdisciplinary Group/Team. May also be called Medical Advisor, Chief Medical Physician, Chief Medical Officer, or a similar title.Reports to: Director of Clinical ServicesJob Qualifications:Education: Graduate of an accredited college/university with a doctorate degree in medicine or doctor of osteopathy medicine degree, and is fully licensed to practice medicine.Licensure: Currently licensed to prescribe pharmaceuticals and medical treatments in the state.Experience: Knowledgeable about the psychosocial and medical aspects of hospice care.Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all patient’s families, staff, the Governing Body, the Interdisciplinary Team, and other physicians.Physical and Mental Effort:Prolonged sitting is required. Requires ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner at all times. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and the Hospice needs.Essential Functions:Assumes overall responsibility for the medical component of the Hospice program, including providing oversight of physician services. Supervises all physician employees and those under contract to the Hospice. If the attending physician is unavailable, the medical director, contracted physician, and/or hospice physician employee is responsible for meeting the medical needs of the patient.Reviews patient eligibility for services, including admission and recertificationAttends IDG/T meetings, participates in the patient care planning process and collaborates with InterdisciplinaryGroup/Team to promote quality and coordination of patient care.Provides medical direction and education to the clinical staff, acts as a role model and provides consultation for attending physicians.May assist and review the Hospice in the development and revision of policies and procedures for clinical care, emergency care and medical research.Communicates with the medical community/attending physician as needed to assure optimum patient care and acts as a liaison in the medical community.Assists with QAPI process as appropriate, assists with continuing education programsPerforms home visits and patient assessment and interventions as requested by the IDG/T. Provides consultation for palliative and end-of-life care issues, completed Face to Face assessments as necessary.Supports the Hospice’s goals and vision.Promotes compliance with all fiscal intermediary and/or other third-party payors, through education, coaching, and other assistance as necessary.Demonstrates commitment, professional growth, and competency. #J-18808-Ljbffr
