Qualifications: BA/BS Degree in Bachelor?s degree in Historic Preservation, Archaeology, Architectural History, or related field (Master?s preferred) with minimum additional experience of 3 year(s) in cultural resources management or historic preservation, including experience with Section 106, NAGPRA, and tribal consultation Working knowledge of NHPA, 36 CFR Part 800, and related federal preservation laws and policies. Ability to review and interpret technical documents and provide clear, practical recommendations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across disciplines. Demonstrated understanding of federal-tribal consultation requirements, tribal sovereignty, and the cultural sensitivities involved in working with Indian Tribes. Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint Duties: The Cultural Resources Associate assists Southeast Utah Group (Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Hovenweep National Monument, Natural Bridges National Monument) in the identification and protection of historic properties during implementation of park projects and planning efforts and serves in an advisory capacity to support compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). The position also provides critical support and expertise in matters involving tribal consultation and coordination with Tribal Nations under both Section 106 and related authorities.This position provides technical assistance, review, and coordination to ensure agency actions consider historic preservation and tribal consultation requirements. While not directly responsible for leading consultations, the Associate plays a key background role in preparing documentation, tracking communication, reviewing determinations, and facilitating informed decision-making by project managers and leadership. Assist program and project managers in identifying potential historic preservation compliance needs early in the planning and design process. Recommend appropriate levels of effort for identification and evaluation of historic properties. Prepare documentation to support NHPA compliance and tribal consultation.50% Provide expert guidance to project teams on the Section 106 review process and its application under 36 CFR Part 800. Interpret and advise on regulatory requirements, internal procedures, and federal preservation policies.10% Support project managers and leadership in facilitating tribal consultation under Section 106 and related laws (e.g., Executive Order 13175, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act).30% Help ensure internal consistency in documentation, determinations of effect, and compliance actions across projects.5% Serve as an internal resource for questions about consulting party coordination, public involvement, and tribal engagement processes.5% Other: Physical requirements: Job is primarily sedentary and performed at a computer.
