Sr. Project Architect

Architect

A recognized leader and licensed Architect who is responsible for envisioning, designing and delivering exceptional projects for clients. Possesses strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, ability to solve problems creatively and ability to foster and manage effective client relationships. Responsible for high-impact decisions. Provides technical leadership and acts as an advisor on projects. Endorses the firm's values by personally influencing client service, innovation and communication. Acts as subject matter expert for technical solutions.

Responsibilities

1. Leads team and other Project Architects in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems
2. Collaborates with PIC/PM in defining project work plans and developing and managing the production schedule, including effectively defining and meeting deadlines
3. Leads the creation and modification of complex detailed implementation documents to incorporate the design intent, using diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices and advanced techniques
4. Leads development of code analysis and confirms code and zoning requirements for assigned segment of project are met
5. Supervises the preparation of documents by architectural team, including verifying implementation documents conform to QA/QC and HKS standards, best practice and quality expectations
6. Manages the technical resolution and coordination for the project
7. Writes reports or specifications for assigned project
8. Prepares client presentations and presents design concepts and drawings
9. Maintains open communication with client and provides guidance through projects
10. Coordinates with PM, clients, public agencies, consultants and contractors to incorporate engineering systems, respond to requests for information, clarifications and modifications, and obtain approvals, negotiations and adjusting scope of services
11. Communicates with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews and delivery of final presentation
12. Exercises skills of persuasion and negotiation on critical issues
13. Oversees consultant team work sessions
14. Oversees product research; assists project designers with material and system evaluation to make proper selections
15. Maintains awareness of risk management for potential project issues and involves PIC/PM if needed
16. Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
17. Attends on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings and documents as needed
18. Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetings
19. Travel will be required

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Accredited professional degree in Architecture
• Typically 15+ years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

• Architectural Registration required
• Sustainable design accreditation preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advanced – expert-level experience, knowledge or skills

Intermediate – experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or work

Basic – familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and may perform elementary functions depending on role

• Advanced skills in Revit, Navisworks and Bluebeam required
• Intermediate skills in Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo, Twinmotion, Enscape or other visualization tools required
• Intermediate skills in Illustrator and InDesign required; basic skills in Photoshop required
• Advanced skills in MS Office Suite required
• Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines required
• Advanced knowledge of materials, construction techniques, architectural building systems, building codes, accessibility guidelines and QA/QC process required
• Advanced ability to research and apply/incorporate into implementation documents required
• Advanced experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy required
• Advanced presentation, graphic and visualization skills to communicate ideas required
• Advanced organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time required
• Advanced ability to manage team with diplomatic leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external required
• Advanced ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships required
• Advanced ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing required
• Advanced ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions required
• Advanced ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment required
• Advanced ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality required
