Title: Physical Therapist Location: Multiple Locations

Employment Type: Full-Time Work Days: 10 Months

FLSA: Exempt Reports to: Director of Student Services

Salary Range:

$50,727 - $64,233 Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms w/ 10yr credit cap.

Job Summary:

The Physical Therapist provides services to students with physical and mobility needs to support their ability to access and participate in the educational environment. This role focuses on assessment, intervention, and collaboration to improve students' functional mobility, strength, coordination, and independence within the school setting.

The Physical Therapist works collaboratively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success in both general and special education settings.

Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:

• Assess student physical functioning, mobility, and motor development using formal and informal evaluation methods.
• Develop and implement therapy interventions aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
• Adjust interventions based on student performance and needs.
• Support district initiatives related to inclusion, MTSS, and student services.
• Provide direct and consultative physical therapy services in individual, small group, and classroom settings.
• Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and specialists to support student access to the curriculum.
• Recommend and support the use of adaptive equipment, positioning devices, and environmental modifications.
• Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on data and observed outcomes.
• Participate in problem-solving teams, intervention processes, and IEP meetings.
• Maintain accurate documentation for evaluations, IEPs, service logs, and compliance requirements.
• Provide training and consultation to staff on mobility, positioning, and physical support strategies.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs.
• Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of therapy equipment.
• Support the development of a safe and accessible learning environment.
• Participate in staff development, school improvement activities, and district initiatives.
• Participate in required events outside the regular workday (e.g., conferences, open houses).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Certification, and Licensure:

• Doctorate or Master's Degree in Physical Therapy required.
• Valid Illinois Physical Therapy license required.
• School-based or pediatric experience preferred.

Professional Experience and Skills:

• Experience working with students ages 3-21 in general and special education settings.
• Knowledge of physical development, mobility needs, and motor skill interventions.
• Ability to assess and develop appropriate therapeutic interventions.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with IEP requirements.
• Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, and best practices.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Student Support, Engagement, and Staff Development:

• Support students in developing mobility and physical skills necessary for school participation and independence.
• Collaborate with staff to implement accommodations and physical supports within the classroom environment.
• Provide consultation and training to staff on positioning, mobility, and safety strategies.
• Promote inclusive practices and equitable access to learning environments.
• Support student engagement and participation in school activities.
• Partner with families and provide guidance to support student development.

Success Indicators (First Three-to-Five Years):

• Improved student mobility, independence, and progress toward IEP goals.
• Timely and compliant completion of evaluations, documentation, and service logs.
• Effective collaboration with staff and families to support student success.
• Increased use of evidence-based practices in therapy and service delivery.
