Entry-Level Production Worker - Masker

This role supports a powder coating operation by preparing metal and plastic parts for painting, coating, or finishing. You apply masking materials to protect designated areas, assist with part preparation and handling, and help ensure that all parts meet quality and production standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position works on a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with regular overtime starting at 5:00 a.m., and requires comfort lifting parts up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Apply tape, plugs, caps, paper, and other masking materials to parts according to work instructions, drawings, and process sheets.
• Prepare parts for coating by loading metal or plastic parts onto conveyor lines and ensuring they are properly staged for processing.
• Clean metal and plastic parts prior to coating, including removing contaminants and ensuring surfaces are ready for finishing.
• Sand metal or plastic parts using sandpaper to achieve the required surface condition.
• Assist coaters in preparing to coat metal or plastic parts by organizing parts, materials, and tools needed for the coating process.
• Mask parts by applying tape or other materials to areas that do not require finish, ensuring clean lines and accurate coverage.
• Help printing operators by moving, shuffling, and positioning pieces in and out of the printer as needed.
• Remove masking materials after processing without damaging parts, finishes, or surfaces.
• Inspect parts before and after masking and processing to verify quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
• Clean paint or coating overspray from parts using tools such as razor blades or sanding, as directed.
• Package finished parts in paper or plastic bags, stack them onto pallets, or place them in boxes for shipment or further processing.
• Handle parts carefully at all times to prevent scratches, dents, contamination, or other damage.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation, including proper handling and storage of tools and materials.
• Meet established production and quality standards while following all safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and environmental procedures.

Essential Skills

• Experience in production or general manufacturing environments, preferably involving masking, paint preparation, or coating processes.
• Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively, including tools for masking, sanding, and cleaning parts.
• Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity to apply masking materials accurately and consistently.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, specifications, blueprints, and process sheets.
• Capability to lift and handle larger parts weighing up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while meeting production and quality expectations.
• Ability to follow safety, PPE, and environmental procedures at all times.
• Spanish language skills sufficient to communicate and follow instructions in the work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience with masking for painting, coating, or finishing operations.
• Familiarity with powder coating, paint prep, or similar finishing processes.
• Experience inspecting parts for quality, accuracy, and defects.
• Experience in assisting printers or printing operators in a production setting.
• Experience with packaging finished parts, including bagging, boxing, and palletizing.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fountain Valley, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
