Special Education Director

Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer or designee, oversees, plans, organizes, directs and leads the District's special education department, pursuant to District policy, state and federal statutes and relevant regulations. Plans, administers and supervises programs for the following categories of handicapped pupils: Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, Speech-Impaired, Visually Handicapped, Orthopedically Handicapped, Other Health Impaired, Specific Learning Disability, Cognitively Impaired, Seriously Emotionally Disturbed, Multi-Handicapped, Autistic and Traumatic Brain Injury. Major responsibility is to oversee RSP and SDC programs at preschool, elementary, secondary and adult transition levels.

Must possess a valid California Administrative Credential and a Clear California Special Education or General Education, School Psychologist or Pupil Personnel Services Credential. - CLAD certification required. - Must possess a valid California driver's license. - Master's Degree in Special Education, Educational Administration or a related field. - At least three years of recent extensive and progressively responsible school or central office administrative experience with extensive responsibility within Special Education programs. - Three to five years of experience related to administrative experience - Experience working with a variety of agencies and other community resources involved with students with disabilities and families. - Three years of direct experience dealing with legal requirements for disabled students in the area of due process activities - mediations, hearings, and settlements. - Excellent written and spoken language skills. - Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulation and procedures. - Knowledge of current office management principals, methods, and procedures within public education and administration.
