About the Position

Prefer 2 years of experience in telemetry. Description: Candidates must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays. Unit is split into 3 sections with various bed capacities. Nurse to patient ratios are generally 1:4, with exceptions in specific areas. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and EKG interpretation. Common diagnoses include cardiac conditions, CHF, respiratory issues, and sepsis. Experience in titrating drips is necessary, particularly heparin, although some experience in titration is not a requirement. Charge nurse typically does not take a patient load. Patient care tech staff vary by census. Respiratory therapy equipment is maintained by RT staff, and vent experience is not needed. Monitor techs are present, and RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. Shifts are 12 hours, with no block scheduling; modified self-scheduling may be allowed. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Holiday requirements include working one major and one minor holiday. There are no call or standby requirements. Floating requirements dictate that nurses floating will go to MedSurg or Rehab, but some units have specific floating assignments. Dress code is navy scrubs. Strong customer service and teamwork skills are essential. Working relationships among staff can vary, requiring adaptability. Travelers are commonly employed in these units. Cancellations may occur up to 4 shifts per assignment. Charting is completed using a specific electronic system.
