The teacher creates a positive, structured learning environment that promotes academic growth, behavioral improvement, personal responsibility, and successful transition to traditional classroom settings, graduation, or post-secondary opportunities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Academic Support
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
- Deliver instruction in core academic subjects and intervention programs.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
- Utilize technology and online learning platforms to support student achievement.
- Administer and analyze assessments to guide instructional decisions.
- Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Implement positive behavior intervention strategies and restorative practices.
- Teach and reinforce appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
- Assist students in setting academic, behavioral, and personal goals.
- Build positive relationships with students and families.
- Collaborate with administrators, counselors, special education staff, and other support personnel.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Participate in conferences, meetings, and professional development activities.
- Coordinate services with outside agencies when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate student records, attendance records, and progress reports.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist with data collection and reporting requirements for ALE programs.
- Monitor graduation requirements and academic progress for secondary students.
- Support student transitions into and out of the ALE program.
- Participate in developing and evaluating program goals and effectiveness.
- Assist in implementing district policies and procedures related to student discipline and intervention.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
- Valid Arkansas Teaching License.
- Appropriate licensure/certification for grade level and subject area assignment.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with at-risk students.
- Experience working in an Alternative Learning Environment.
- Training in trauma-informed practices, behavior intervention, restorative practices, or crisis prevention.
- Experience with credit recovery and intervention programs.
- Knowledge of state curriculum standards and instructional best practices.
- Ability to develop positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning and behavior support strategies.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods.
- Ability to supervise students in various school settings.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Contract days and salary as determined by the Nashville School District salary schedule and Board of Education policies.
- Performance evaluated annually in accordance with district procedures.
