We are a growing pipe support manufacturing shop looking for a Production Planner / Scheduler to take ownership of our shop floor production and capacity.  We have a dedicated buyer who handles all material procurement and external services, meaning you get to focus 100% of your energy on what you do best: scheduling efficiency, routing, and maximizing throughput. If you understand steel workflows and know how to bridge CAD data (Autodesk Inventor/DXFs) with an active manufacturing plant, we want to talk to you.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Production Planner / Scheduler to optimize operations within our pipe support fabrication shop . In this role, you will own the end-to-end scheduling process, converting structural steel and pipe support drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) into actionable shop floor schedules.

Using JobBoss2 ERP , you will manage capacity constraints across multiple work centers—including cutting (Waterjet, Plasma Table & Band Saw), drilling, machining, fitting, welding, blasting, and outsourcing galvanizing—to ensure on-time delivery to construction jobsites while minimizing material waste and production bottlenecks. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Master Scheduling: Develop, maintain, and execute the master production schedule using JobBoss2 , balancing contractual delivery dates with actual shop capacity and outsourcing selected activities when necessary.
• Routing & Work Orders: Create, release, and route digital work orders and routers in JobBoss2 , mapping out the precise fabrication sequence for structural assemblies, insulated supports, pipe shoes, spring hangers, non-metallic pipe supports, slide bearings, etc.
• Material & Nesting Coordination: Collaborate with procurement and detailing teams to ensure raw steel plates and structural shapes and bought-out components are staged and available; coordinate with CAD to align material nested layouts with the active production sequence.
• Capacity Planning: Monitor shop floor work center loads (water jet, plasma table, band saw, presses, plate rolling, fitters, welders, assembly station) within JobBoss2 to identify capacity constraints and adjust schedules proactively to avoid idle time or overtime spikes.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Serve as the primary bridge between Project Management, Detailing/Engineering, Purchasing, and the Shop Foreman to resolve drawing holds, material delays, or scope revisions.
• Data Integrity & Reporting: Maintain real-time tracking of work-in-progress (WIP) in JobBoss2 . Run daily/weekly production meetings to review schedule adherence, identify variances, and implement recovery plans for delayed jobs.
• Subcontracting Management: Schedule and track outsourced processes (e.g., hot-dip galvanizing, specialized testing) to ensure seamless integration back into the final delivery schedule.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of production planning, scheduling, or material control experience within a manufacturing or structural steel fabrication environment.
• Software Mastery: Proficiency in JobBoss2 (or recent versions of JobBOSS/E2 Shop System) is highly preferred. Advanced capability in Microsoft Excel for auxiliary data analysis is required.
• Technical Literacy: Ability to interpret structural steel fabrication shop drawings as well as pipe support drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and basic nesting reports.
• Industry Knowledge: Good understanding of steel fabrication workflows, welding processes (AWS standards knowledge is a plus), and sequenced site delivery requirements (e.g., shipping by sequence/tier).
• Problem Solving: Exceptional ability to adapt schedules rapidly when faced with machine downtime, late material deliveries, or urgent field changes.
• Communication: Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to negotiate deadlines and coordinate cross-departmentally.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with steel detailing or nesting software tracking systems (e.g., Tekla EPM / FabSuite, SDS2) that interface with ERP software.
• APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP).
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles in a job-shop environment.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

• Split time between a professional office setting and an active, industrial fabrication plant environment.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection will be required when on the shop floor.
