Dental Assistant - Expanded Functions

Free Continuing Education (CE) through TAG U. How You’ll Make a Difference Assist with patient flow management and provide support to the DA office team. Assist doctors during a variety of treatment procedures. Prepare operatory rooms and break them down for doctors and hygienists. Complete sterilization processes for equipment and operatory, ensuring all staff is trained and compliant. Follow maintenance schedules for flushing waterlines, suction lines, and equipment daily, weekly, or monthly. Set up trays and operatory for all procedures. Support patient charting at a proficient level. Train others in patient handoffs and monitor patient flow. Comply with OSHA regulations and Aspen safety requirements, including HIPAA guidelines. Take dental radiographs (X‑rays). Provide patients with instructions for oral care after treatments. Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies. Complete denture soft relines and manufacture temporary crowns. Monitor and aid in laboratory case management. Perform a quality intraoral health scan of patients under 5 minutes. Understand the clear aligner process and teach it to patients. Take quality impressions and bite registrations. Perform additional expanded functions based on certification, such as coronal polishing and restorative functions. Ensure emergency kits and oxygen tanks are maintained. Order and maintain supplies in accordance with practice budget. Perform various office tasks as necessary. Requirements and Qualifications Current Dental Assistant License, Registration, and Certification as required by state. Radiology (x‑ray) certification as required by state. Current CPR or BLS certificate. 2+ years’ experience as a Dental Assistant. Proficient in chairside assisting/four‑handed dentistry. Proficient in sterilization and infection control techniques, and able to teach them. Maintain and update annual CE requirements as specified by state. State certification in expanded functions as required by state.
