Background Investigator

Complete 6-7 week new Investigator training to become certified in Federal Investigative Standards for government background investigations Conduct daily travel for in-person background investigations determining employment suitability for individuals requiring access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities Type and report information clearly and concisely in a government computer system Work independently while collaborating with a team of Investigators and a Field Manager Requirements 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered Experience conducting federal background investigations preferred Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance Active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication preferred U.S. citizenship Must reside within 50 miles of Rochester city center Daily local and occasional out-of-area travel required Home office required Temporary Duty Assignments/remote travel of 14-30 days away from home per TDY may be required Valid driver's license and full-time use of reliable transportation required Sufficient motor vehicle insurance required Accurate and efficient typing capabilities; 40+ WPM recommended Ability to work with multiple computer programs concurrently Ability to speak for extended periods and hear sufficiently for in-person and telephone communication Ability to record, read, and transcribe words and numbers accurately Proficient grammar and writing skills for high-quality reports Professional interaction skills, writing endurance, attendance and punctuality, and attention to detail High confidentiality, ethics, and integrity Professional attire required Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long periods, and drive in adverse or nighttime conditions Ability to work with varied individuals and personalities professionally Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment under remote supervision Organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills Proficient writing and communication skills Relocation assistance is not available Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in conducting federal background investigations, including interviewing and record searches, while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and ethics.
