Whether you're ringing up a cart full of groceries, assisting at self-checkout, or helping someone find what they need, you play a key role in making sure every customer leaves with a great impression of our store.If you enjoy connecting with people, like staying busy, and take pride in doing things right, this could be a great fit for you.What You'll DoDeliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly in all areas of the store and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive oneAssist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along any feedback or requests to the teamOperate the cash register to complete customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including bagging groceries as neededAssist customers at self-checkout lanes and process refunds and department-approved returnsRedeem promotional coupons, food stamps, and WIC checks; sell and redeem lottery; process rental transactions; handle credit card charges and in-store charges; count back change and issue receiptsFollow all local, state, and company policies on the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets, and ensure compliance with WIC and food stamp guidelinesStock, face, and rotate merchandise throughout the store and keep shelves clean and well-organizedReview the weekly store ad to stay current on price changes and sale itemsKeep the register area clean, maintain adequate supplies, and report any cash drawer discrepanciesKnow code dates on perishable items and be able to explain them to customersAssist with store displays, decorations, and special promotions as directedHelp with cleaning throughout the store including registers, restrooms, breakroom, and backroomFollow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and safe at all timesMaintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policiesAssist in other store areas and take on special projects as neededYou'll receive direction and support from: Store Manager, Center Store Manager, and Fresh Foods ManagerYour SkillsFollow written and verbal instructions with confidenceUse basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentagesCommunicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful wayStay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy front end environmentLess than a high school diploma or equivalent acceptedReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Manager, Center Store Manager, and Fresh Foods ManagerEducation and ExperienceLess than a high school diploma or equivalent experience acceptedPhysical RequirementsFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis is a fast-moving role where things stay busy and engaging. You may frequently work in areas with temperature extremes and possible dampness. The role also involves possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
