Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: WA or Compact License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC Must-Have: Will accept a traveler with 1 year of experience in larger trauma settings. Description: This role requires working in an emergency room setting. The emergency room has approximately 56 beds, expandable to 60-70 with hall beds. There is a fast track system with 6 beds available for low-acuity patients. A separate triage area with 5 beds exists, and travelers may take a triage test for assignment. The ED has a designated holding area with 18 beds for inpatients awaiting bed placement. Emergency room RNs manage their own holds, with inpatient RNs often floating to assist. There are separate psych and seclusion rooms available, totaling 6 private treatment areas. In-house security is present to ensure safety and order. The department sees around 170-200 patients per day. Patient-to-nurse ratios are approximately 1:3 but may be 1:4 for low-acuity cases. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac issues, stroke, sepsis, DKA, AMS, respiratory problems, and abdominal pain. The team consists of ED physicians and mid-level providers, charge nurses, house supervisors, nurse aides, paramedics, and patient sitters. ED Techs perform EKGs while respiratory therapists manage various respiratory equipment. Television monitoring is available in the unit, and monitor techs assist. The radiology department is adjacent to the emergency department for efficient transport. Nurse or ED Tech primarily perform blood draws, with lab assistance for difficult cases. Scheduling for shifts is based on department needs. Weekend requirements will be determined by unit demands. This position requires working holidays in November and December, with flexibility for one holiday if it aligns with unit needs. There is no requirement for call or standby shifts. Professional attire is expected. Unit-specific orientation will be provided. Cancellation of shifts may occur up to 4 times during a 13-week assignment. The charting system employed is Epic.
