Licensed Practical NurseLicensed practical nurses performing duties ranging from entry level to first line supervision. Employees provide a variety of patient care activities such as administering medications, maintaining patient records, and assisting in the treatment and direct care of patients. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides fundamental physical and psychological nursing care to patients as part of the multidisciplinary team in accordance with the facilities mission, Virginia Department of Corrections Standards, physician, and patient expectations.Provides total health care to inmates (routine, chronic and emergency care), maintaining continuity of care from admission to discharge. It ensures safe medication administration and providing health services in accordance with Department of Corrections (DOC) policy, American Correctional Association (ACA) standards of care, and ensures operational policies and procedures are followed. To function as a medical health provider to the inmates by performing initial and ongoing medical assessments, prescribing appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates with their medical needs, and assisting with preparation/modification of medical treatment plans. Work requires some discretion and judgment and is clearly defined by the licensure regulations.May supervise or provide work direction to nursing aides or direct service.QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:• 1 year of prior LPN experience required, corrections experience needed.• A current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider is required.LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:• Current LPN License• IV Certification within 90 days of employment
