Experienced Senior Associate, Business Incentives Group

Job Summary:The Tax Experienced Senior, Business Incentives Group is primarily responsible for executing project tasks to identify, document, and support on exam BIG tax credits and incentives. In this role, the Tax Experienced Senior, Business Incentives Group is charged with utilizing research skills and applying industry knowledge to understand the potential BIG tax credit issues and opportunities and to gather client information and documentation to identify qualified costs and expenses and calculate the BIG benefits efficiently and effectively. The role also may assist with business development and operational matters. Job Duties:ResearchIdentifies intermediate to complex situations when research is needed, providing an outline of the issue(s) and research to be conductedAnalyzes researched facts and sources prior to composing a detailed report of the research findingsComposes standard research memos in support of projects / transactions Tax ComplianceEnsures clients comply with applicable authorities while identifying options for minimizing the client’s tax and reporting burdensObtains required client information to utilize in the preparation of tax filingsIdentifies “gray areas” and communicates related risk potential for contingent tax liabilitiesCompletes pro forma Forms 6765 and other related state formsEnsures all necessary approvals and documentation, including but not limited to budgets, work plans, executed tax engagement letters, are in place prior to engagement work commencingTax ConsultingDevelops, recommends, and implements standard tax methods to provide clients with maximum tax benefits related to current and future tax obligationsAssists in the review and response to notices for federal and state agenciesDocuments all significant tax positions, as well as issues, findings, and deliverables in accordance with firm policiesIdentifies and calculates BIG benefits, including potential credits, deductions, and other federal and state opportunitiesContributes to the development of new and improved ways to identify qualified costs and activitiesIdentifies tax consulting opportunities and participates in the marketing of services to existing and prospective clientsTax ControversySupports representation of clients before tax authorities on contested issues Tax Related SoftwareUses Caseware, GoSystems, tax research databases, and other tax-related software in the completion of assigned tasksTax SpecializationDevelops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding BIG tax benefitsCalculates the federal BIG tax credit and applies BIG benefits of all states in his/her regionSuggests ways to develop or improve tools, methodologies, policies, etc., to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of BIG services Identifies other opportunities and issues other than those related only to BIGASC740-10Understands and applies industry standards, along with firm policies and BDO Tax Quality Manual requirements as they relate to FAS 109 and FIN48Recognizes, measures, and documents clients’ financial benefitsStrategy DevelopmentAssists in the preparation of studies of tax implications to identify alternative courses of actions to benefits clientsDevelops new or improved ideas to advance the position of clients, the firm or firm personnel through reduction in taxes or expenses or offering of non-tax benefitsIdentifies and communicates possibilities for referrals while maintain awareness of the firm’s tax specialistsOther duties as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities:Supervises and reviews the day-to-day work of BIG Associates and Interns on assigned engagementsEnsures BIG Associates and Interns are trained on all relevant tax softwareDelivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for BIG Associates and InternsActs as mentor to BIG Associates and InternsQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelor’s degree, requiredDegree in accounting, tax, or finance, preferredExperience:Three (3) or more years of prior experience, requiredPrior experience performing services related to BIG tax credits preferredPrior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis preferredLicense/Certifications:CPA certification, preferredSoftware:Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and WordLanguage:Fluent in verbal and written EnglishOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Excellent verbal and written communication skillsSuperior analytical and research skills Solid organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on detailsAbility to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environmentProven ability to work in a
